Made the switch to canned diet.

Hi everyone

New to the forums, I have six cats that were on a canned/dry diet and three weeks ago I decided to change to a all canned diet. This I what's in their rotation so far. Any thoughts on these brands good or bad? Canadae,Taste of the wild,wellness and Nutro. Thanks I will post pics soon.

I read some very positive reviews about Nulo, and the price is not outrageous.  The story of Nulo's founders is appealing, also.  I like what I see about Canidae (like Nulo, a Texas-based business), but Canidae seems slightly overpriced.  I think that Purina Pro Plan True Nature is comparable to Canidae but is priced far less than Canidae.

I havent checked in to the Pro Plan yet but will. So far as far as large cans go the Canidae is cheaper then Wellness. I am trying to find some other good quality foods and try to keep the costs down a bit. It adds up with six cats that's for sure.

Take a look at a brand called 'Triumph.'  I don't know if you can call it a premium brand, but not only is it grain-free but also has no Meat By-Products, if that's important to you.  Triumph comes in several recipes.  It's made by Sunshine Mills, a company with a long history in the animal feed business.  Best of all, you can buy Triumph 13 oz. cans for a really great price online at Chewy.com.  Another brand produced by the same company is 'Under the Sun,' also priced very reasonably.  I bought a case of grain-free Lamb recipe of Under the Sun from Chewy.com.

I misspoke.  Under the Sun cat food (and dog food) is actually produced by the Canidae company.

Under The Sun, Wellness and Nutro all have carrageenan in them. But I bought them before I found out about carrageenan and I don't get paid until Friday so I'll have to feed them. Is it really as bad as they say it is?

Indeed. There are at least two others that don't have carrageenan: minced chicken and sliced turkey. I think there are a couple others but don't remember which ones, exactly!

Today I removed the canned cat foods from my cupboard that have carrageenan in them and bought new foods from Rosie. At Petco I could only find Solid Gold, Soultistic, Nature's Variety and Fancy Feast. I know Fancy Feast has other less desirable ingredients but sometimes cats are finicky and you have to give them something they will eat.

I'm disappointed that Wellness, the pate isn't healthy for cats because of carrageenan.

Yea I does add up quick. The did have a buy three get one free of holistic select at chow hound wich helped
