Hi all! I'm new here. I was googling hairball related info and found this site, and became interested in joining a community that's as passionate about our domestic felines as this one.
I've been meaning to write an introduction post and post some pictures of my kitty here for a day or two. I finally decided to post after the events of last night.
A male orange tabby showed up yesterday evening at me and my boyfriend's doorstep. Our own cat Simba was acting very excited around the window from where he could see Mr. Orange, and at first we didn't think much of it. I thought maybe a bird was riling him up. It wasn't until a while later that I peeked out and saw the orange cat.
He was fairly well kept, definitely someone's pet, but he looked thin. I decided to leave him a treat, and as I was opening the door, he rushed in! Started a very bad cat fight with Simba, which I had to break up.
He ate ferociously. I really think he must have been very hungry because he ate so fast and desperately. But he was very friendly and affectionate as well, purring, jumping into my lap and kneading. He is clearly a house cat.
I left some food and water and went inside, hoping he would go home but 5 hours later he was still there, looking like a sad thing. Keep in mind I live in Norway, and despite being Summer it still gets chilly out at night.
I think he must be lost. I didn't think he was gonna go anywhere, so I decided to bring him inside, and keep him in the bathroom for the night where Simba can't go. I figured I can go to the vet in the morning to scan for a chip and return Mr Orange.
I only just recently moved to the country side. I used to live in a city where cats are indoor only pets, but here it is more common to let them roam outside unattended. I keep worrying that I've abducted someone's pet who was just on a night stroll! But at the same time it wouldn't feel right to just leave him outside on his own when he's giving me eager looks.
So here I am waiting for the vet to open. Mr Orange has a full belly and is purring happily in my lap. Do you think I did the right thing or did I make a mistake?
There is only 1 shelter in the vicinity and they have a good track record of reuniting lost cats with their owners. I figured that if he doesn't have a chip then that's where I will take him. Advice welcome and appreciated!
