I actually don't, but the boards are slow today, and I wanted you to know someone was thinking of you.  One of our experts will get in here soon for you.  They will want to know what meds he's been given, I do know that.  Hugs to you and your kitty.

Hmmm. What meds is he on? Prednisone? Our gal Francie is dealing with idiopathic chlothorax, and thus has fluid around her lungs and heart. The mass and lymph could very well be benign and causing the fluid. Did they do an ultrasound or just an X-ray? Big hugs during this stressful time! Francie is on Octreotide steroid injections.

how is your kitty doing?

Is it easy to pill your baby?

I only have experience with asthma and cancer. But I do know a bit about heart disease as Angel Floey had an enlarged chamber in her heart but it wasn't bad enough to start meds but I do recall reading about the 3 types of heart disease.

The pred usually helps keep them more comfortable but with heart disease its a balancing act with fluids. Too much fluids will make it difficult for them to breathe and too few fluids makes them dehydrated which causes all kinds of problems like not eating and tired.

can I ask what the baytril is given for? Do they suspect an infection?

Did you get ultrasound?

they usually do an ultrasound to determine what kind of heart disease we are dealing with.

same with the cancer=ultrasound of the belly/heart is recommended to get a better picture than xrays.

What were the results?

Blood work=what was the level of white blood cells?

Any abnormal levels?

What is the dosage of the Baytril?  Discuss, perhaps, a different medication.  This one can cause some serious problems if the dosage isn't just right.

As for the others...your cat and I are on the same meds.

He has a heart problem to begin with. And Ibd
His heart was slightly enlarged. He had an X-ray. We were waiting a week to see results of the meds then go from there.
He last had bloodwork in the beginning of the year.
Yes an infection. The baytril says 68?

I'm going to try to find someone who knows more about the Baytril than I do.  Can't promise, but will try.

Baytril , enrofloxacin should not be given at a dose higher than 5mg/kg/per day for your cat. That is 2.27mg/per lb/ per day.  A dose higher than this puts your cat at risk for retinal toxicity and blindness. Even at the recommended dose keep an eye out for dilated pupils and keep your cat out of direct sunlight.  This is very effective but potent antibiotic and your vet should have discussed  it's benefits and risks with you already.

Weight of Cat

Once Daily Dosing Chart (5 mg/kg/day)

5 lb (2.27 kg)

1/2 x 22.7 mg tablet

10 lb (4.5 kg)

1 x 22.7 mg tablet

15 lb (6.8 kg)

1 and 1/2 x 22.7 mg tablets or 1/2 x 68 mg tablet
