About a week ago I found an orphaned kitten only a few weeks old, her eyes were caked shut and she was almost starved to death, it was 2 am so I couldn't tell much else, when I brought her inside I cleaned her eyes and gave her kitten formula a neighbor of mine gave me, I also bathed her and she seemed to be okay, besides being a little thin and all. She's eating wet food now and is very energetic and happy, but her eyes keep having mucus discharge, and she sneezes quite often, I can't afford to take her to the vet just yet, is there any way to help with the sneezing and runny eyes?

Sounds like your girl has an upper respiratory infection, and will need to see a vet as soon as you possibly can.  Meanwhile, gently wash the eyes with luke warm water.  I'm not a real expert on this, having been lucky enough to have had disgustingly healthy cats and kittens in my life.  SOMEONE will see this soon who has the answers you need.  The boards are a bit slow today.  Hang in there.

I'm thinking that someone recommended a vaporizer for another kitten, but I don't for the life of me remember what to put in it.  I am so sorry!

I agree about taking the kitten to the vet. She may also have an eye infection which would need medicine from a vet. Also some URI's require medication from a vet. This can be a simple and in-expensive issue to treat. Please take her to a vet tomorrow for an exam.

Mamany also gave you great advice.

You can also try doing steam treatments. Run the shower in your bathroom as hot as you can. Steam up your bathroom. Take the kitten into the steamy bathroom and sit in there with her for 15-20 minutes three times a day.

In my area (central Massachusetts), there is a Vet College (Tufts University) which gives large discounts on vet services, to folks who don't have a lot of money. They know it can get quite expensive. Anyone around here, if they as much as have a Food Stamp card they can show, is qualified for this. Now if you just happen to live near here, I'd recommend that first thing in the morning. If not, well you could google and make calls even, and see what lowered cost vet services may be available where you live. Shelters tend to know about things that are available. That's one place you could ask for suggestions where you could take her. But yea, when I had to look for this, I found several choices. So looking pays off. Bless your heart for taking that kitten in. She's better off already.

Your kitten will need terramycin ointment for her eyes, and an oral antibiotic for her upper respiratory infection (URI). Both are easy to treat, but won't clear up on their own.

In the meantime, steaming her in the bathroom is an excellent idea.

Do try to see a vet asap, and thank you for rescuing her! We'd love to see a picture!

Keep us posted!

We have kitten eye drops for her eyes, it seems to help, but I think she has the cat flu, and I honestly would love to get her to the vet, but I can't afford it and I don't think I have it in me to let her go, She doesn't seem terribly ill, just little sneezes and runny eyes,

I will be taking her to the vet though when I can, in a week or so, I just can't immediatly... I was just hoping to find some at home remedies so she didnt have to feel any discomfort

Very cute! Yes, it sounds like an URI, which stems from the herpes virus.

Steaming in the bathroom is all you can do until you can see the vet. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

So, when I found her, it seemed as if she haven't eaten for a few days, but now she's very well fed, but im worried she might have missed nome vital nutrients, we got her kitten chow and supplements, but im curious if there will be any long term effects from her not getting the food she needed when she was very very little?

She's a little beauty.  I'm thinking that if she is eating well, and active and playing (keeping in mind that kittens DO sleep a lot), she should be ok waiting a week or two for the vet, so long as you support her with the eye drops you have, steaming for her breathing, and the good food you're giving her...That said, the vet is a must as soon as you can manage it.

Me?  I don't think I could give her up, either!  WHAT a cutie!  What have you named her?  You do realize that we'll now be bugging you for updates, and wanting to watch her grow up into a lovely big cat!

I can't get her to the vet immediately, mostly due to the fact I don't have a job at the moment and that we aren't supposed to have a cat in my apartment. (It's 100$ a month per animal and we already have a dog) and our landlords family is our neighbor and we live in a double with them xP I have to sneak her it of the house when they're re away, thankfully they are teachers and school starts up real soon.

So that's that, she seems t be clearing up rally well, her eyes are a lot better,

And her name is Puddin'

shes adorable. did you check out the links at the top of this section of the forum about finding low cost vet? Do you already have a vet? If you call them and tell them what is going on they may give the antibiotics while you wait to get the money to get in there. I would start calling vets in your area and look up the smaller less popular vets=those are the cheaper ones-the things you describe are cat flu and the treatment is the same pretty much-fluids/water/food and antibiotics. you can syringe water into her to help give her body more fluids to fight the infection. Someone mentioned about antibiotics in the fish department but you would need to google the dose and length of time. Sometimes the flu is a virus so it may not help with having antibiotics. Its a 50/50. From the photos you show-she looks bright and alert. Just keep an eye on her breathing and continue to steam her several times a day.

Well, that's why lots of people chime in...I had forgotten the links, and I've even referred people to them before!  LORD, I love communities!  Yes, and there are also some links for assistance with emergency care, as well, if memory serves!

She's actually dojng a lot better, and she drinks plenty of water as is, she stopped sneezing when I took out her litter box, I think the dust from the litter may have been one of the main reasons she kept sneezing.

We also live in a small town and have an inexpensive vet, my boyfriend just gets payed biweekly and doesn't get his check till next Friday.

Good to hear she is doing better.  Yes, it may well have been dust from the litter.  Keep a watch on her.  How are her little eyes doing?

Her eyes havent had any mucus discharge In a couple of days, and there has been little sneezing ( occasionally she sticks her nose in her water bowl and sniffs the water and makes herself sneeze)

She's doing pretty good, but my dog has taken a liking to her and he is a big dog, but I'm more afraid for him, cause she likes to play A LOT and loves to use her claws, and he just can't keep his snozzle away from her, I think they'll be fine though.
