@Gumi

Thank you for taking Gideon and Ceres in. They are lovely [emoji]10084[/emoji]️
Love it when they do things together. And mind you, they grow pretty fast. Before you knew it, they are already double their size.

I think both are broken mackerel tabbies.   Although their fur hairs may be ticked - this white/silver on the end of hairs

Is it correct to call Gideon a ticked tabby?
My answer wasnt complete.  A ticked tabby isnt a tabby with some ticked hairs, but its a pattern of the self tabby. Easiest recognized by, there is the M on forebrow and some stripes on the legs, but no visible pattern on the back.    This is called for a ticked tabby.

I notice also  I become unsure what is ticked and which is tipped...  English is my third language and the memory not longer first rate.   I must look it up again.   :)

StefanZ StefanZ the older he gets, the more ticked hairs show up and the harder his stripes are to see. He's still really young, still about 12-13 weeks old. C: but if his stripes on his back don't fade, he's broken mackerel?

I see what you mean.   There seems to be some blended forms, he may be one of those.

I always thought tabbies are externally one or the other.  But not far ago, when I looked through a site explaining the different tabby formations,  they gave as the example on the ticked tabby  a blended tabby, a ticked tabby with faint stripes visible...

Why should they show a rare exception to illustrate a typical case?   Ergo, probably the blended forms arent that unusual!

My guess is his one gene is for striped tabby, the other gene in that pair is for ticked tabby...   and BOTH shines through.

From a few days ago. They're almost 6 months old now! Sleeping together in our clothes basket.
The boy is the one with more brown, the girl is the more grey one.

The girl, on the counter. They can't jump to it quite yet, but they figured out quickly how to pull the drawers out to climb up.

This is a sign of good intelligence!  To figure things out, to find alternative solutions...

I'm glad!
They jump and grab the lip to the drawer and then push off from the cabinet door so the drawer opens. Then they just climb into the drawer and onto the counter. There aren't many places left to hide things from them that they can't figure out how to get to now.
