53 days is extremely premature, and likely has a poor prognosis. Is the baby able to nurse? Does it have any fur?

Please post a picture.

You must keep it warm, and feed it one drop of kitten formula at a time with a syringe.

Is your cat still pregnant?

Are you sure of the exact day your cat mated? Can you keep her 100% inside and away from intact males now?

Hi,

unfortunately the kitten passed away after 11 hours. It meowed like 3 times before and i was with it almost all that time, i had even lost my appetite and was too concerned for the little baby.

I was keeping it warm constantly with a warm beanie bag and fed it kitten formula every 2 hours with fresh batches.

The mother only slept/lay down with it for no more than 20 mins and kept getting up

i encouraged the little thing to swallow by gently rubbing downwards on the throat

also called 2 vets.

Her belly was huge before, we were expecting about 2-3 kittens and only one small one appeared.

Her belly does seem a little bit wide as if 1 is still there but can't be too sure

mother cat is absolutely fine, she just came to my lap and is kneading me lol

which never happened before her pregnancy

the kitten only had slight fur on head/ back it felt really soft

nothing on the belly though and i thought it would've been bigger

this was her first time and she did abandon it, she came downstairs whilst i ran upstairs and seen the newly red kitten under my bed so small i thought it was an abortion

but moved it to the nest and mum licked it which is a good thing and yeah...

we kept the male for 8 days

she only started to get a long with him after 3-4 days

i think they mated about 3 times but it was probably a day apart

i would not have thought it made a difference... :(

I'm sorry to hear about the little one.

Are you a breeder?

Sorry about the preemie. Do you think your cat is still prgnant? If she is, hopefully she will carry the others to full term.

Well, her hormones are in high gear. She may be meowing about the kitten she lost. It's hard to know what they are trying to say.

Has her milk come in yet?

It's hard to say what causes premature birth in cats, but kittens rarely survive being more than a day or two early, and then are often too weak to suckle and need syringe feeding until they are stronger.

I love ragdolls! I hope she makes it to her due date.

Keep us posted!

She should have been meowing about the kitten before then? I'm not sure but thanks!

I'm really nervous this time but hope it ends well.

There is no discharge or watery fluids

her nipples look big lol but don't think they're producing milk yet

update....the last kitten was born still born yesterday around 5:45, no wonder she kept me awake since around 4 kept going underneath my covers and feeling uncomfortable

no water broke, this may be because the first time she had a kitten her water broke then

however this second kitten looked much bigger so it still grew in a span of  4 days.

she been extra clingy and we giving her all the attention she wants

is it normal for her lady bits to look a bit dark brown reddish? after she had it, it was swollen but now it looks dark red/brown ish

she isn't bleeding; nothing seems to be leaking.

The coloring is probably dried blood. She will lick it clean eventually.

It's sad the kitten was stillborn. Her due date is in 3 more days. Do you think she has another kitten still?

There is clearly something wrong with this pregnancy. I would not consider allowing another pregnancy, and instead would spay her when this is all done.

Yea she has licked it and looks more clear now.

It was her first time, we may try again once we feel better due to this loss

maybe next year or after that but not anytime soon.

I also hope that you will spay her. This was not a normal pregnancy, and trying again sounds way too risky. She can be a wonderful, loved pet.

I think it may be risky to mate her again. In the meantime, with repeated heat cycles, she runs the risk of developing pyometra, which is a potentially deadly uterine infection.

You'll want to take all of this into consideration when deciding.

On behalf of The Cat Site we are sorry for the loss of your two kittens. You may post a memorial thread in our Crossing the Bridge Forum if you wish. I will lock this thread now as a sign of our sympathy and respect for the loss of these two fur babies.
