Hi guys! I pulled into my driveway today and was approached by a small orange cat. I reached down to pet it and it basically crawled up my body like a tree and started wrapping itself around my neck while purring. Naturally I couldn't leave this sweet baby outide by itself in the rain. I had my dad bring my cat carrier out and put it in that, and it's in a separate room right now with the door closed. It doesn't look like it's starving, but it was very hungry. Pretty sure it's female. I think it was dumped; it happens a lot around here. It's a very friendly kitty. I would keep it, but I'm working on moving with some friends and we already have so many animals it's making it difficult, there's no way I could take another one in. [emoji]128546[/emoji] Anyway, I'm reaching out to several sources to try and find it a good home. The thing is, I'm not sure how long that will take, and I'm wondering what to do whole she's with me. I'm reluctant to bathe her, since I don't know where she came from and what she could be carrying. I don't really want to risk being scratched or bitten. I don't want to just leave her how she is though. I didn't find any fleas, but she does have several ticks. I'm also worried about introducing her to my cats. My two are strictly indoor only. They are both vaccinated, so I may just be overly paranoid about spreading something. I'm keeping her in another room for now regardless. I gave her some wet food, which scarfed down. I'm wondering about leaving her some dry while I'm at work, but I don't want her to make herself sick. How often should I feed her? How should I go about bathing a strange cat? Help me!

Thank you for trying to help this little one.  Is there any way you can take it to the vet to see if it possible has a microchip?  Also there you could see about having the ticks removed and get some flea medication.

If you end up taking her to a shelter be sure it is a no kill shelter.

I would keep her separated from your other cats.  You don't know if she carries harmful diseases.  Also she probably has worms so it's best she kept in another space.

If you happen to find a home for her, please ask that the cat be taken to the vet for a check up.  Also check to see if she has been spayed/neutered.  She will want to watch carefully now that she is not pregnant.

I hope you can find a loving home for her.

I would feed her wet food 2x a day.  It is fine to leave her with some dry food while you are gone for the day.  Be sure she has fresh water too.  If she is very hungry she may very well eat and eat.  I would leave her a small amount ( less than 1/4 c ) while gone and then you can give her more when you are home.

As for bathing at this time I would not bathe her.  You can take a damp wash cloth and sponge her off, but she should be grooming herself to remove the dirt.

Yet the ticks absolutely need to be removed.

I took a closer look and what I felt v and assumed to be ticks were actually small scabs, I didn't see any bugs in her. I'll call my vet today, but it will be Wednesday before I can take her in for any care since I have to work all day the next two days. I'm planning on keeping her until I can find her a home if possible. If not, I'll take her to the local shelter and sponsor her adoption.

Took her to the vet today. Definitely female, and definitely pregnant. We're pretty positive that's why she got dumped. [emoji]128544[/emoji] I asked the vet how far along she was and if it would be too late to spay. He told me she would be having the kittens in 2 to 3 weeks, and gave me the number to a low cost spay neuter clinic that just opened, and have discounted the price for me since I rescued her. So I'm taking her in Friday for an emergency spay. She's only 8 months old. It just makes me so mad that people let their cats get pregnant because they don't spay, and then instead of taking care of the problem themselves by either spaying or finding homes for the kittens, they dump them somewhere. Anyway, I've never had to spay a pregnant animal before, and the thought of it kind of makes me sick because, you know, who wants to be responsible for the death of kittens. But I'm taking her in for it regardless, because I feel like it's the right thing to do. I don't know anything about kitten care, and the people I'm moving in with have two territorial males, so there just isn't any way it would work. So I'm still looking for a home for her, but they'll get her after the procedure is done.

Oh the poor dear.  So young to be pregnant.  It is very hard to do what you are doing, but it is also for the best.  Thank you for taking care of her.  I hope a loving home can be found for her.  She deserves that!

Wow, this was ages ago, but if anyone is wondering, she now goes by Nomi and has been in a happy and living furever home for nearly a year now.

Tx for the update! Nomi after the biblical person? Often spelled Noomi or Naomi?

What happened with the pregnancy? I saw in another post the vet was hesitant to do the spay.
