Hi, all! It's been a while since I've posted here but I think I could use some of your expertise.

I was at Target picking up some food for Moscato today when I discovered Iams Purrfect Grain Free. I picked up a couple cans of the wet chicken variety to see if she'd eat it. One is a pate in gravy, the other is shredded chicken breast in sauce. Moscato's a gravy-licker for sure, but she did seem to eat about half of the 3oz shredded can before attempting to bury it like she always does. I'm not sure if it's because the pieces of chicken had more protein and were therefore more filling than what she normally eats or if she didn't care too much for it.

I'll probably try the pate version later this evening or tomorrow morning, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Moscato is super weird with her food, especially for a kitten. Just when I think I've found the holy grail of foods for her, she'll turn around and all but snub it the next day. She usually never cares for anything that's pate, and I can't leave anything down for very long because my roommate's cat will come along and scarf it up.

The only canned food she WILL consistently eat is Fancy Feast Medley's Florentine. I would say it's the main staple in her diet, and I don't feel good about it because I'm sure all that sauce is full of gluten. I want to feed her something nutritious since she's 6 months old, and that's why I was inclined to pick up the Iams today since it is grain and gluten free.

I remember Moscato from some of your previous posts!

I looked up the Iams foods you mentioned and saw the shreds (this one, right?), which look like a definite improvement over the Fancy Feast Florentine. I'm not enthusiastic about all the tapioca or the pea protein, but they're better than wheat gluten! (Our previous cat also loved those Florentine foods... unfortunately, we were utterly clueless about how bad wheat gluten is for cats. You're way ahead of us!)

I seem to recall that you're already tried a lot of foods on Moscato, but just in case there are saucy chicken shreds left untried, I'll mention a few brands. Sometimes it's also worth revisiting a rejected food, too, because cats can be fickle: our cats have definitely changed their minds on a lot of foods and become more accepting of healthier options. Some of the foods I mention have ingredients I wouldn't want to feed a lot of (tapioca, potato, carrageenan, etc.) but that make me happier than wheat gluten. A few:

-Wellness: the new Core Hearty Cuts don't sound bad and our cats loved the Signature Selects when I bought a can, though I never bought it again because it was way too saucy

-Soulistic: our cats love their chicken/pumpkin foods, though they're pretty carby from tapioca, too

-Nutro Natural Choice: a lot of picky cats seem to like these! The minced chicken and sliced turkey are two of our cats' favorites but I had to cut them way back because one cat was scarfing and barfing them too much! These foods are pretty low-carb.

I don't remember if you've already tried sprinkling crushed treats on food to entice Moscato but that works very well for lots of cats. I use chicken Pure Bites or Good Lovin' freeze-dried chicken heart for unloved leftovers.

Good luck!

My most picky eater loved the Iams Purrfect Delights Winner Winner Chicken Dinner and the TunaTopia.  Only those two flavors, and I thought, all in all, they were pretty decent.  At least not full of carbs on the carb counter even though they DO have tapioca starch in them.  My next pickiest eater does love Nutro Natural Choice as mentioned above, but only one flavor-Chunky Chicken.
