good morning!

it's a nice quiet, cool weekend morning, and i'm thinking i'll make a bit of a special breakfast for myself today. usually, my breakfasts are pretty simple and nothing that i need to cook.

with this on my mind, for today's Question of the Day......

Do you (sometimes, or always) make a 'special' breakfast on the weekend? Anything in particular that you make or have?

i'll start!

it's really rare that i cook my breakfast. for years, my breakfast has been two hard boiled eggs, juice, and either toast or cereal/home baked granola with milk. occasionally, i'll fry a couple eggs or have vanilla yogurt instead of the hard boiled eggs. this morning i'm thinking i'll make some french toast, served with butter and real maple syrup!
i'll still have the hard boiled eggs, and juice.

how about you?

No I don't at least not for breakfast.  I occasionally have breakfast for dinner and it's usually an omelette, home fries and toast.  I very rarely go out for breakfast and I usually eat the same thing when going out.

My ex always had to have a special breakfast on the weekend.  It consisted of pancakes, eggs over easy and bacon or sausage.  I don't like eggs any way but an omelette so I would just have pancakes and bacon or sausage.

I tend to eat quick foods like mini muffins during the week. This morning my hubby is making me eggs. I love Tomago sushi.  My hubby found a recipe for it online and now uses it to make me an omelette or scrambled eggs when I have a weekend day off from work.  I will have some coffee with my eggs.

I'm not a morning person; so on Saturdays DH lets me sleep in and he gets the kids a simple breakfast.  DD and sometimes DS will have what we call "Saturday Cereal" aka Lucky Charms, Apple Jax or any other sugar cereal.  Sunday we are too busy trying to get to church to do a big breakfast.

Instead of breakfasts; we do pancake nights on some Saturday nights.  DH is the expert pancake flipper so we will cook together.  He does them on an electric griddle and I will make hash browns, eggs and sometimes bacon.  If it's in season; we'll have fresh cut melon or something like that with it.  Its harder to work a vegetable into that.  I'd do spinach with the eggs; but the kids don't like eggs.  It seems like that takes longer to cook than a normal dinner though; so we don't do it all the time.  DD has been asking though; so we need to plan for that soon.

I am not much of a breakfast food cook. For a sometime special breakfast, I will go out for breakfast. I will usually have french toast with some bacon or sausages.

My favorite breakfast is a bagel with cream cheese, along with a nice cup of coffee.

Other times, I will get a nice blueberry muffin.

Normally, I just have yogurt with granola mixed in it; lately, some blueberries also.

Love having breakfast for supper! Pancakes, sausages or bacon, or omelette, or french toast with bacon/sausages..

We love special breakfasts. Bagels are our usual go-to but sometimes I'll take the time to do something more elaborate.  Yesterday, I made scrambled eggs with chives and cheese, bacon and toast.  We hadn't had that in a while and my fiance kept wondering how I mange to get my eggs so light and fluffy lol.

We love waffles and this time of year I always have fresh blueberries around so they get added to the batter.  Real maple syrup here, nothing artificial.  I'm not a big pancake lover so that's a rarity but I love love love French Toast and when we have a good amount of bread to use up that's when I make it.

We both love good oatmeal; winter is the time when we eat that most. Made with milk and maple syrup once again as a topper. YUM.

Sometimes, a bowl of plain yogurt, with granola and fruit does the trick.  Lately, I've also been making fruit smoothies.

Sometimes, a bowl of Cheerios hits the spot

Eggs really are the favorite and I've got tons of ways of making them. I like making fritattas to use up veggies and leftover cheeses, omelets and soft boiled eggs with toast "soldiers".

Obviously, we eat well LOL.  Both of us like variety but honestly, the bagels/cream cheese (maybe some lox if I feel like splurging) win out most. Easy, and we live where great bagels are abundant :D

EDIT: COFFEE. ALWAYS.

During the week, I usually have a protein smoothie and toast, or Greek yogurt with coconut shreds and sliced almonds.  On weekends, hubby cooks--we have omelettes or scrambled eggs with sautéed veggies, using whatever veggies we have in the fridge.  Sometimes we add fried potatoes and/or vegetarian sausages, and mimosas if we have champagne on hand.

My breakfast throughout the week is 1/2 cup of old-fashioned oatmeal (sprinkled with cinnamon) and 1/2 cup nonfat milk.....trying to keep my cholesterol down.

On weekends, I simply have my coffee unless we're going out to a restaurant. Then it's usually some kind of an omelet (with egg substitute, if available) with turkey sausage or turkey ham. And sourdough toast (gosh, but I love sourdough toast). With fresh fruit. I do love going out for breakfast and would rather have breakfast out than dinner most of the time.

I love breakfast foods but not first thing in the morning.

I only eat oatmeal and a banana most mornings and if I am still hungry I will have a protein bar with it then tons of water.

If its the weekend we used to go out to breakfast and I always get 2 eggs over easy wheat toast lots of butter bacon and baked beans if they have it otherwise home fries burnt to a crisp. I hate soggy potatoes-I love fries and I often tell them to take the potato chunks and dump them in the deep fryer as that's the only way to have them in my opinion then sprinkle with some garlic salt type flavor and ketchup. I am hungry just thinking about it.

For the longest time I ordered their home made chicken fingers with buffalo wing sauce and a salad with ranch=they make their sauces themselves and SO good. They didn't mind serving these at 8am. I have strange eating habits.

I also like French toast and I will make them at home but Jon doesn't like eggs except an omelet. I find omelets to bee boring-I never can taste the egg as some places add too much milk to water it down. When I make omelets its always a 6 or 8 egg omelet cooked like a pancake with 2" of veggies with cheese. I cook it on medium to get the underside crispy then turn it on low and cover it and walk away for 15 minutes=it makes it nice and crispy on the underside and the veggies on top get steamed with the cheese. and can't forget the toast!

On that note I need to find something to munch on because now I am hungry!

I adore Cream of Wheat. I grew up on it.  I like all cooked grains. Grits/polenta is another favorite.  I lived in Florida for a few years and grits were everywhere.  Not so much in NJ.

FYI - the chives are from my garden. I got smart this year and grew 3x what I had been. We use them for a lot of things.  I also add it to regular cream cheese for the bagels

I am not really much of a breakfast person. During the week I eat gluten free Cheerios with lowfat milk and have either some fresh fruit or some cranberry juice. On the weekends I generally eat a cup of yogurt.
I love to make waffles at night and cook sausage or back with them for our supper meal.

i think grits is more of a 'southern thing'.
