Hi all.

We got a new kitten from a really nice shelter but it started having diarrhea. Kitten is crazy active and drinks lots of water and eats. I gave her grain free food woth duck and she has also kibble for kitten grain free..

How do I stop the diarrhea for the kitten?

Could it be that its just nervous for the enviroment change?

I'm sorry your kitten is not feeling well.

My first thought would be food.

Are you giving him the same food he had at the shelter? Did you transition him slowly from shelter food to a new food?

How long has he been having diarrhea?

You could try putting him back on food that he is familiar with and then slowly transition him to whichever one you want him to eat. Try giving him probiotics, it should help.

And I would call a vet just to be on a safe side or if diarrhea persists for more than few days.

Hope your kitten is feeling better :)

Oh I did not transition slowly oops. They fed her friskies and I switch to a nice grain free all protein kitten food . I gave her today some probiotics. I also gave her kitten kibble. Oh boy. Ok if she has still diarrhea I will give her what they gave at the shelter and transition slowly. Or take her to the vet. Thanks!

Yeah, that could definitely be the culprit.

Or she could have eaten something she wasn't supposed to on her own out of curiosity, it would cause indigestion as well. My adult cat sometimes tries to eat things like plastic wrappers and what not, i have to be very careful and not leave anything of interest within his reach. So monitor that aspect too, kittens are notoriously curious

Oh god I hope not. We made sure everything was secure. She is eating a lot , drinking a lot and playing. We have an apt for her vet in a week anyways.

I've had really good results from adding a bit of pumpkin to my kitten's food when he has a dodgy tummy. Fish gives him diarrhea, something that took us a while to figure out, but a bit of plain chicken with pumpkin mixed in sorts him right out, and he loves the pumpkin too. Sometimes he licks it off the chicken :).

So it wasn't anything to worry about. It was just from changing her food too quick. They had her on friskies at the shelter and I started on high protein grain free and her little tummy freaked out. I did fecal exam at the vet and gave her metronidazole so everything is ok now. yay.

I'm really glad it was just a food thing and nothing serious :)

Happy to hear your kitten is doing well!
