Hello fellow cat mum and dads!

We have 4 wonderful, beautiful boys... 2 are my own little ones.. 2 are our fur babies! We got Finnegan (a Burmese kitten) around Christmas last year, he was a active little guy who 5 days later would not move. We rushed him to the animal hospital and they took him in right away and put him on IVs, he had a horrible raging fever. His bloods were out of wack.. no antibiotics seemed to work to bring his fever down. He was negative for FIV  and leukemia. We called the breeder the first night who got mad and said we should have called her first, er vets are too expensive... (we were told by our own vet when they reopened that he needed to be in a hospital on an IV, if we brought him home with that fever, no matter how much syringing we did he would die.) The breeder also asked if the vet mentioned FIP.. I said no.. she said if it was FIP to immediately put down the cat as nothing would save him and she will give me another one... I got off thephone, looked up FIP and was a mess. I made the animal hospital test everything and anything. There was no fluid in his belly, the globu-something was good, the Dr connected with a specialist, they were not satisfied it was FIP... my heart started to beat normal again, Finns fever went down and he came home days later (And 3k later)

Fast forward to now. His attitude changed. He hasn't wanted to be picked up (not normal for him), he isn't as active, he seems to breath heavy when he plays with the wand, he doesn't purr anymore, and he cries... a lot.

Brought him to the vet for that plus its time for him to get fixed (my vet doesn't like to do it before 9 months) so I brought him in. She couldn't get a feel in his belly, it was hard and tight.. but she said he could have just reached sexual maturity... and the symptoms could be him wanting a gf (the meowing, the behavior change) she did noticed a lot of discharge in his eyes and nose and wanted  that to be looked after (he always had a lot of discharge, even in the hospital..I thought it was normal and you could just see it more because he is cream)so she wanted him to have drops and for him to return.. She said the exercise intolerance could be anything and that the belly could be diet and gave me pro-biotics..that was 3 weeks ago, my son got sick ... so I brought my kitty in last Thursday (maybe Fri?)...well...she called the hospital and got the file. She said she was sure he was fine but because his belly was so tense she couldn't really feel anything and his old bloods showed a problem with the liver... so she wanted to just run some bloods before they put him out for his neuter... so we did...

I got a call Wed that his white count was clearly up, he had an infection somewhere, she suspected bladder or kidneys,... she wanted to run a more in depth test and a urine test... so I brought him back in...they gave him a shot of antibiotics and said they would call me...

Well they did today, and his urine looked ok.. but there was protein, with the previous history.. his current behavior change, his hard tummy and the rulling out of FIV and Leukemia ... they couldn't rule out FIP.. they are not saying it is...but she cannot rule it out... my heart broke into a million pieces. I love Finnegan. He is a sweet, loving cat that is good with everyone... even our 2.5 year old and 11 month old... I thought we were over this ... but clearly not. They said not to worry too much, but they just worry about a virus when it is such a young kitten... With it not being FIV and another one.. they do keep FIP on their radar, and not to worry.. but of course, here I am worried...

They want to retake bloods in a week and a half and then do an ultrasound after the bloods are back to see if there is fluid in the belly... It will be a long hard  10 days and any good vibes for my Finnegan would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for all those who read and who post wonderful stories that help lift this worried cat moms heart a bit.

So many hugs and vibes to you and little Finnegan.
:hugs: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

There are some very knowledgeable advisors and members who have been through FIP and I'm sure they will be along to share some info.

I know how awful it is having to wait... No one can tell us not to worry but we try not to let it consume us. I will be thinking of you and your sweet kitty, I'm so sorry you are going through this. [emoji]128149[/emoji]

Will be thinking and sending happy thoughts your way for little Finnegan!

I know how agonizing it can be to wait on news so try to take care of yourself.  Snuggle your baby close and take it day by day until you figure out what's going on. Keep us updated and we'll continue to send positive vibes your way!

I am so sorry to hear this and I am praying that it is not FIP. Have had my own experience with FIP and it is torture to watch your sweet baby suffer with this.  I hope it is something that they can fix for your little Finnegan so that he can be the happy playful kitten he was meant to be.

Thanks everyone. New bloods were taken last week, results given today...white count not changed at all after antibiotics..something in the smear also came back... though I can't remember what.. Maybe leukcocytes..neutrophils also high.. kidneys not looking as bad but the thing on the smear was new. Ultrasound tomorrow.. this vet isn't as concerned with fip.. she said the worst case a lymphoid tumor I believe... but to be hopefull ..of course I Googled that and wasn't very happy either... I just hoped it was stress from our move.. she doesn't believe so though :( some more vibes needed :(

Update: ultrasound showed some thickening in the belly and around the kidney... but nothing major... his lymph nodes were enlarged a bit.. but could be from the elusive infection... my actual vet says she doesnt believe it is fip... (his blood protein seems stable)the ultrasound dr said to xray the chest but his breathing sounded good she said, he is very strong, gaining weight and eating so doesnt want to put him... or us... through more tests... they put him on stronger antibiotics.. i asked if it could be stress.. we just moved and now wont let him in our room at night as our baby sleeps with us (Finnegan would never hurt the baby but would jump in the crib to sleep with him..thus waking him) so he literally sits outside of our room and cries the entire night. She said clinically..with thd bloods she doesn't believe so (especially with his leukcocytes) but did put him on anti anxiety meds.. they will do bloods again in 2 weeks after the antibiotics..but we still don't know whats gping o ... if anyone has any clues as to what else it could be... please dont hesitate! but...its not fip! So thanks for the vibes!

No advice here but so glad you are not dealing with FIP.  We had a young kitty approx. 3 yrs. old who was diagnosed with FIP, it is more common in young cats.  After our vet diagnosed him we took him to a veterinary feline specialist for a 2nd opinion.  Thinking of you and wishing you all the best.  Sending special thoughts your way.

You might try a cargo netting from the back of the car over the crib.  Chances are the cat would sleep with you and not the baby anyhow.  My daughter grew up with cats in her crib and she's just fine.  If your cat slept with you before the baby came, chances are he will sleep with you again.  Heartbreaking to keep him out and yes, very stressful.

I grew up with cats in my crib then in my bed as a child. If it is just him waking the baby when he jumps in crib maybe try putting him to bed when baby does to sleep. Maybe his own bed at end of crib. I would not put netting over crib child could get tangled in it Good luck..I pray some healing for your kitty.
