*Sigh* I feel like the past four months has been a nightmare and I can't wake up. I don't know what to do. Do I assume she's dead and grieve for real?

It took me a year to accept that George wasn't coming home. I still check the city pound and the Lost Cat sites pretty much every day though. If ever I notice a cat out somewhere my heart skips a beat and I have to stop and take a proper look.

I don't think you ever fully accept they're gone, it's impossible to lose all hope because that would mean forgetting them.

I'm still looking on lost cat sites and bumping her posts on facebook. I call her everytime I go out somewhere. At least then if she's nearby she can hear me, even if she doesn't want to come out of hiding, and she knows I'm still looking.

A little over a year ago, I was walking around town and found this tiny, half starved kitten.  Well, actually, she found me.  She walked up to me and climbed up my leg.  Considering how skinny she was, I didn't think she was being taken care of by anyone, so I took her home and named her Storm.  A few months later, I went through a hard time that involved me having to stay with my grandma for a couple of months while I looked for an apartment.  I couldn't have Storm at Grandma's, so I asked my best friend to kitty-sit.  She had her for a month, then she somehow got out - Kirby said she liked to hang out in the basement and after she went missing, she found an open basement window - one of those that was just barely above ground.  We searched and searched for her.  Finally, about 3 months ago, I gave up on finding her and adopted Connor and Murphy.  A couple of weeks ago, I got a call from a woman who ran into one of my facebook posts on a missing pets page.  Storm had shown up at her place and was really sweet and friendly and since it was winter and there was snow on the ground, she kept her.  And Storm always was a complete sweetheart.  I named her Storm because she purred up a storm (and she was a pretty soft gray color).  The woman told me that she had completely fallen in love with her, but I could have her back if I wanted.  I still love her, but she has a safe, happy home and she's being taken care of and I have my boys.  I went to see her and gave her some love.  Storm went missing in December, so I had no idea where she was for over 7 months.

My point is, it is quite possible that she's found herself a home and you may find her one day.

I've just read this.  I really hope she comes home.  My prayers are with you.  Our neighbor's Paddington disappeared shortly after the moved into the neighborhood.  She posted signs and heard nothing for weeks.  It turns out a woman in the fancy neighborhood down the road had adopted him and been keeping him in her house.  The woman returned him, considerably plumper, after she noticed one of the posters.

Wow Alicia88 Alicia88 that's good to hear. I'm glad you found her/someone contacted you. That's a sweet story too. I like that you went to visit here. I hope the same thing happens to me with my cat Blue and Portia. I have 2 cats besides the missing one. The hardest part is not knowing what happened and where they are. I don't know if I would be able to let go if someone was taking care of him. I would take him back. It was nice of you to let her keep Storm. I'm not even sure if anyone would be honest enough and let me know. So far nothing.

Still hoping and praying that our kitties come back home to us.

I do really hope you both find your kitties.  The lady who had Storm was a really sweet older lady.  I could tell that it would break her heart to give her up.  Knowing that she's safe, happy, and well cared for is enough for me.

Thank you. Aw. That was really nice of you. Im not sure i would be able to do that. I get emotional. Where ever he is I hope he's being taken care of like Storm was. It's better than being alone wandering..but if so, they don't know he already has a home. That's true. As long as she's in good hands. She was probably hoping you would say she can keep her cause she fell in love woth her. Are those your 2 boys in your picture? Adorable.

Yes, they are.  I've posted tons of pictures of them all over this site.  They're my precious baby.

That lady didn't have to contact me after all that time or offer to let me have her back, but she did.  The in itself tells me that she's a good person.  And honestly, I have a small one bedroom apartment for me, my boyfriend, my two boys, and my future step-daughter 50% of the time.  As soon as we can afford it, we're going to find a bigger place, but right now, we just can't.  And, I'm not sure I could afford to take care of 3 cats - not properly.  So leaving her with that lady was the best thing for her.  And if you really love your pets (same as children), you do what's best for them regardless of what it does to you.

I'm sorry to hear there's still no news of Portia or Blue. Gin kun isn't home yet either. It's been 9 weeks today.

Did you manage to check out that farm @bringportiahome  ? I wonder if she is hiding there. Cats that go missing all summer often show themselves when it starts to get cold again. They realise that they need help from people. I suggest that you keep walking around and calling your name. Just getting your scent and the sound of your voice out there might encourage her to show herself.

@Alicia88  It was nice of you to let Storm stay with that old lady. I wouldn't mind if Gin had found himself another home. He had a long life before he started living with me, I wouldn't be surprised if someone had been feeding him before he showed up at my house. As long as he's happy I'd be happy too. It's just the thought of him being out there cold and hungry that worries me.

Fingers crossed for all of our lost cats.

I'm glad I'm not the only stressed out, agonizing, lost pet person on here.  I feel all your heartache and can probably one up you on the crazy.  Last fall, we found three tiny little kittens sitting beside the gravel road we live off of.  Well, I don't ever leave an abandoned or lost or whatever animal alone, so I brought them home.  After a few months, they were all spayed and neutered and life was peachy amongst everybody (3 other cats, 4 dogs and 2 chickens).  These kittens have their own door, but never venture too far from the house since they didn't really grow up or spend any time on the run or roaming or whatever.  I also work from home, and thanks to Amazon, don't leave much, so we are all very close and having the perfect life, I never dreamed anyone would just go off and never come back.  My other three adult cats that I took in have never done this and they came as grown strays or in the case of Sissy, from another state, when her elderly owner, my bf's grandmother, passed away, leaving her without a good, long term home.  Thank goodness she never tried to get back home.  In any case, my point is, I can understand the confusion and frustration about why a cat with a perfectly great and loving home would just suddenly leave and not come back.

Anyway, two weeks ago yesterday, one of the kittens, now approximately a year old, Stormy, apparently decided to go AWOL.  I had been on the phone for 2.5 hours talking to the director of the vet hospital that had recently treated Cooper, Stormy's brother, very aggressively for diseases he didn't have, racking up a $1,700+ vet bill.  So instead of wrapping up my work and going around checking on everybody, like I do every day, it was later in the day before I had the chance to make my rounds.  One thing about my cats is that they obey better than the dogs and ALWAYS come when called.  ALWAYS.  They even come when they aren't being called.  If someone is being called, they come.  Every single one of them.  My bf and I stayed out that first night until after 2am calling, whistling and walking around the entire property, looking for Stormy.  I have 20 acres and have a soybean field on the west side of my property and a cattle pasture and woods to my north, east and south, so there is lots of open and wooded area for him to be.  You're mind goes crazy trying to make sense of it.  Did he go out into the soybeans and get turned around and can't find his way back?  Is he hurt?  Did he make it the 1/4 mile to the road and get picked up by someone?  Was he sick and I just didn't notice it because I was working and on the phone for so long?  Cooper was sick recently and we never did get to the bottom of what the issue was, but he stayed under the shrubs by the house, why wouldn't Stormy do the same?  Why isn't he back yet?  And on and on and and on it goes.

After a week of his nonsense of suddenly going beyond the yard and not meowing or coming when called, and no sighting of him at the neighbors, who are a 1/2 mile away, I started to get frantic and try to reason with him amidst the calling for him.  "Stormy, come on, this is enough of this!",  "Stormy, are you hungry?  Do you want some food?"  "Stooooormy, come on, buddy!!"  And then, as any crazy cat/dog person will tell you (all of us, probably), I started looking up animal communicators.  I found one that was reasonably priced and set up an appointment for last Thursday.  She told me he was coming of age and wanted to take this trip.  He'd gotten further away than he'd planned and couldn't hear us calling him.  He wasn't sick or hurt and he did know how to get back home.  She told me he had human interaction, he was at 2 o'clock from my house and he had Egyptian Mau in him.  All very interesting information.  The thing she told me that is driving me crazy is that she was getting the feeling that he would be gone another week, as he was only about half way through his adventure/trip/journey or whatever.  That was yesterday (Friday).  He's still missing and two weeks has seemed like two years.  I've prayed, begged him, pleaded with him, kept positive thoughts, looked at his picture at least 5-10x a day and made all kinds of promises to the air as I called for him.  I'm sure if the neighbors can hear me, they are telling their children to stay far, far away from me.  They probably also wish I'd shut up.

It is sad and heartbreaking not knowing the why or where and fearing the worst while hoping for the best.  Whether this animal communicator lady was legit or not remains to be seen, but knowing he's out there with coyotes and foxes and no telling what else, worries me to no end.  I'm fortunate to have a bf that is just as concerned about him as I am and will never give up hope or stop looking either, because he's very close to the cats as well, especially these kittens who each have such unique personalities that even with 11 cats and dogs now, Stormy's absence is still very much felt and the hole he's left is bottomless.

To all those out there missing cats, my heart goes out to you and if you are in the states, make sure you also post on Craig's List.  You never know how far your cat has gone and that is a free way to post and also look for your pets.  I once had a new dog show up and took off for a run, taking along my fairly recent rescue, a woolly husky, who didn't return when the new dog did.  We looked and looked and called and called and put up a sign and checked with the neighbors to no avail.  Fortunately, a farmer seven miles away saw our ad on Craig's List and called us.  It was a stressful week, to say the least because it was January, which is cold, snowy and it gets dark so early.  We never dreamed she'd have gotten so far away from home.  Luckily, she is a husky and suited for winter and she wound up at a house that had someone who was thoughtful and smart enough to check Craig's List and call us.   He didn't inquire about the reward we'd offered and I wasn't sure how much to give, but I sent him a thank you note and a $20 bill since he wasn't home when we went to pick her up.  I think posting your missing pet is very important because I know that I for one, don't post my found cats or dogs usually, since I don't want someone to just decide they want them and I have little to no way of knowing for sure if they are truly the owner or how good of an owner they were if their pet went missing and they didn't even post it missing, so I just look for postings or newspaper ads for lost pets when one shows up.

That was beautiful.  I think it is wonderful that you have such a big heart that you can worry about the "one sheep " that strayed rather than the 5 that stayed home.  I will pray for your animal as well.  I have feral cats that I feed out in the country. Some were born on my property under a shed so I know what you mean about coyotes.   I had one that I called Casar.  I used to feed him all the time and he was really friendly.  The last time I saw him even on my cameras was December.
