Hi,

I have the most adorable almost 2-year-old cat, Twyla. When I got back from my vacation, I noticed the mole on her ear looked larger then before and a little red at the bottom. It seems to be growing but doesn't seem to be causing her pain. It used to be transparent but is now getting darker. I scheduled an appointment with her vet for Monday but I wanted to see if I could get some other opinions also. She has had this mole since I got her in November 2015 and it's not raised and seems pretty flat. Yes, she does have a small chip in her ear.

Here is a photo of it today.

Thank you!

Gosh, I never knew cats had moles, but I never really thought about it.

Cats can definitely get skin cancer, and a change in a mole in a human can be indicative of that, so I'm glad you have an appointment to have her seen.  Not saying this is what this is, but you want to make sure there isn't a problem.  You might take along the "before" picture, just so you have something to compare for the Vet to see.

Let us know what they say.

I love her name, BTW.  So cute, as is she.  I'm partial to black cats

Thank you so much! Black cats don't get enough positive attention! She is going to have it checked out tomorrow and I will post an update. I just hope she is okay.

Update:
We took Twyla to the vet and they said it looked fine. It's not raised and not an irregular shape, so it doesn't seem to be melanoma. The vet said it looked to her like a birthmark because birthmarks on cats can change. She said to keep an eye on it also, so that's what I intend to do.

Hi guys. Any idea if this is a mole or a bite from some bug?
We really have no way of knowing. Your best bet is to send this photo to your Vet and at the same time let them know whether or not is is raised, whether it appears to bother your cat (as in if he is trying to scratch it), and any other pertinent info, like whether or not he goes outside where there are more bugs, etc.
