A few days ago, about 4-5 days, this beautiful stray cat showed up on our street. She was previously a few streets up for a few days and so on, she has been making her way around town. She looks a lot like a seal point Siamese, but a little lighter and semi long fur (light blue eyes). Now I normally help what strays come our way by putting out food, posting ads or looking for their owners, and on some occasions taking them indoors. This girl is now inside our home, due to neighbor kids torturing her and not letting her be. Anyways, we brought her in and realized WOW she is huge, about to POP any day. She is VERY pregnant. I have dealt with my share of pregnant cats, but they have been my own cats... not strays and I have never owned a Siamese kitty. I am not sure if there are any signs I should be aware of or anything different to do.

She is flea infested. I just bathed her and removed as many fleas as I could. I was worried to treat her, this far along. She had a cyst on her face and she clawed it open. The vet said to just keep it clean. She is also very skinny, so of course she was offered our cats' food. Because she is pregnant, we got out two separate boxes out for her.... to try to help her get ready for labor, when the time comes.

Anyways, I am almost positive she is due any day now. Just want to be sure and ask if there is anything more I need to do for her. Her belly is hard, you can literally see the babies kick (just looking at her, not touching her), she is lactating and is VERY friendly (she will not leave our sides). So should we expect kittens in a few days or weeks? And is there anything else I should do for her?

I will return shortly, but; her being siamese-alike (or sooner, balinese alike) doesnt change much comparing with any any other cat momma in difficulties.

Food - please it be kitten-food type, wet or dry.   Wet food is often good enough, even if itsnt labelled kitten food.

Calcium source wont hurt -  goat milk if you can get it is always a good nourishment, useful also if you need to supplement the kittens.

Plain full full fat mild youghurt is useful. So is some mild full fat cheese.

If salomonella in eggs is no problems in your area, add egg yolk to her food.

Not too much in the beginning, better small portions but often.  Big portions are dangerous for emaciated cats and humans...

Poor gal, she sounds very friendly and desperate. Thank you for bringing her in.

Advantage II or Revolution is safe to use now on the back of her neck. Wash her bedding in hot water to kill eggs and larvae.

She needs access to dry kitten chow 24/7, and as much wet food as she wants. If you can pick up a can of powdered Pet Ag kitten formula, a dish a day will serve her calcium needs.

Since her milk has come in, she is likely due any day now. She'll need her nest in a private area such as a bedroom, and her food and litter box nearby.

Post a picture of her for us if you can, and keep us posted on her progress. I hope the kittens will be healthy! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thank you. I was just unsure if delivery is any different due to her size or if I needed more information. I, myself, have two cats both had litters when I was younger. One is 17 years old, so it has been many years since we had kittens of any sort. =) It is very exciting to think we will have little ones to take care of. But, I feel so horrible that, more than likely, someone just dropped her off outside. She seems like she has been outside for quite some time. She prefers to get into the garbage, over eating the cat food. So we had to make sure it was all placed away a bit better. And yes, we have been giving her kitten food. My older cats tend to handle kitten food better, so that is what we already had. And thank you for the advice on the flea treatments. I did call the vet and he said she was too far along to give her anything, but I will try another one or two and see what they say about it. Her sore is healing up nicely, very fast. And again she is very sweet and lovable. No kittens yet though. I truly thought she was in labor last time. She was panting, purring super loud and very restless. She would follow me, lay down beside me, then go into her box, and follow me again. She did this for about an hour or two then stopped. So she may be getting very close.

Advantage II can be used on mommas. but just combing the fleas is of course an alternative.   Revolution, you can perhaps get the type which is labelled for high preg cats...

Yeah, she probably got thrown out when she was wailing in heat...  Or when the owners noticied she was pregnant.

Her friendliness and sweetness is in part a pure fight for life, she knows very well you are the best practical chance for her children...  I mean, she is surely a nice girl, but its not sure she is this sweetness always...  Of course, if you adopt her, it wont matter the least: because by the time the kittens are weaned and adopted out, she will love you truly and highly because she has become deeply attached to you.

What you describe was probably  pre-contractions, humans have this too, it has even a fancy name.  Its a way of mother nature to prepare the body and the muscles.

If she wish to get her tummy rubbed, do so.  its a nice massage, and also, helping the hormones flow.

A nice Balinese-look alike! May even be the real thing. If you ever visit a vet, let him look if she has a chip - usually its on the backside of the neck, immediately above the shoulders. But it can wander.  also, not all purebreds have it. Especielly these deemed as pet quality often dont get it.

I see she is slender not only because of her naturally slender posture, but also, she is surely emaciated.

She is beautiful! [emoji]128571[/emoji]

As Stefan said, she was most likely having some pre-labor.

She should calm down about food once her health stabilizes and she realizes there is plenty.

I don't understand how people just dump or leave cats behind. So sad, but it happens often.

Well today she has been a bit distant. She will let me pet her, rub her tummy (she loves that) and will cuddle a bit now and then. But she seems very uncomfortable today. As I am sure she is. She lays in a spot for maybe 10 minutes then gets up and finds a new spot (in sight) and lays down again (she has been doing this for about 2-3 hours now). She is twitching her tail a lot today and the babies do not seem to be as active, as they were yesterday. I have to work 3rd shift all weekend, so I am hoping I am home when she goes into labor. If not my husband will be, but he is more of a dog person and would prefer not to see any animal give birth.

I am thinking she has maybe a few days left. I have tried to set up boxes for her, in our two spare rooms, but she prefers to be in sight and close to us. And yes she has food and water, even a litter box, available in those rooms.

She may end up being like my older cat and have kittens anywhere, as long as someone is near her. My older cat slept in my bed daily her first litter, her water broke in MY BED, we set up a box for her and she would stay there unless I left the room. She would then follow me everywhere I went, while she was in labor. I think I was 15 at the time. I actually stayed home from school so she was able to deliver without stress. Haha!

Who knows, all cats are different.

But, we are very excited and hope she has an easy labor. We were not expecting to take in a pregnant stray, that is for sure. =) When we noticed the neighborhood kids carrying her, throwing her in the air, and squeezing her we decided to bring her in and try to find an owner. We then noticed as soon as we took her from the kids, she was VERY much pregnant. I told my husband if we could not find an owner, then she would stay until the babies are born and old enough to be adopted out. He agreed. We have been searching for her owners for a few days now, with no luck. Only stories about how she has been outdoors and on other streets for a few weeks now. And by her health I am almost certain someone kicked her outdoors or left her behind. =( It happens VERY often around here!!!

There is probably a good 7 strays just on our short street alone. My neighbor and I feed a few daily. I wish I could help them all, but my oldest cat is 17 and has a hard time adjusting to most other cats. She is reaching the end of her days, probably prefers to live them out peacefully. As I have been trying to help her with, by not taking in strays and getting them back to health. But, in cases like this I can not look away and just leave out food. =( In cases like this I have to help. So after these babies are born and adopted out, she will be spayed and have her shots and we will hopefully be able to adopt her out as well. If not I am really hoping my oldest cat takes to her. =)

I was thinking she looked a lot like a Balinese as well. She is very pretty. That is for sure! =) If she is a Balinese, around here they are not cheap. That is why I have been searching for an owner. I just don't think she is your average stray cat. She is also way too friendly to have lived outdoors all her life. It just disgusts me when people dump their animals outdoors, so I was really hoping she was just lost. But again I truly think she was left behind or kicked out because of the severity of the fleas and how skinny she truly is.... BUT, at least she is indoors now and can have a less stressful delivery.

You are thinking and doing so beautifully.

But just for the protocol,  the best help for homeless if you cant adopt them etc, is to  spay / neuter, á  la the TR ideas.   Feeding unneutered strays has backsides, one of them is they tend to become more...  But giving food and caring for spayed homeless, is a praise worthy deed, it is.

The moving from place to place and tail twitching sounds like early stage one labor, which can last up to 24 hours. That's what my cat did all day on a Saturday, slept on top of me that night, then ran to her box to deliver 4 babies early Sunday morning.

She was a pregnant stray that I took in. I had an ill, geriatric cat at the time as well, who I had to put down a few weeks after the stray had kittens. I ended up keeping the stray and all four of her kittens, who are now 16 months old. Like you, I've always fed strays and helped them when I could.

Anyway, it sounds like the cat may be laboring. I hope she has them when you are there too. Have you thought of a name for her?

We named her Dani-Gene! My husband didn't want to give her a name, because sadly more than likely we will need to find her a home when kittens are old enough to leave. But, I believe she came into our lives for a reason. So she was named after both my grandfathers who passed away last year, 10 months apart! Daniel was one and Eugene was my other grandfather's middle name. Haha! BUT, she had her babies between 9:30p yesterday and some time this morning. My husband fell asleep around 1a and there were 3 total. When I got home at 6a there were 5 total. As I can tell, we have 4 girls and one boy. Pretty sure on the genders! 1 black male with extra toes. 3 black females. And one more silver female with extra toes as well.

Congrats!

Yeah, momma is essntially black, so no wonder kittens are black too.   There is also a dilutation gene somewhere from, so a black girl got silver-blue ("grey") instead.

Im happy everything seems to go well, both momma and kittens seems nicely well doing.

Beautiful name she got!   How will you pronounce this?

I love the name! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

And congrats on the babies! You've got a couple of Polydactyls there! I'm so glad it went well for her.

Keep us posted!
