So, Lizzie and Gizmo are on a wet and dry diet.  They were eating Wellness core indoor formula but they didn't seem to like that too much so I just switched to Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost (dry) chicken meal.  They seem to like it and in fact they tend to go for the raw bites first.

Just wondering what others think of this food and is the extra few dollars over the regular Instinct Chicken meal formula?  There are only a handful of the raw bites in there, but yet it costs quite a bit more.  I even noticed there is .4 lb more in the regular instinct formula.  Am I watching my dollars?  You betcha ;-).

Thanks in advance!

I've fed it to my cats as well as NV Instinct original and the NV high protein.   My boys devour all of it as long as it isn't Duck/Turkey which they'll eat it but aren't thrilled about it.

Hmmmm is it the same food except the raw boost has freeze dried raw pieces in it?

The NV Raw Boost dry is just the original NV Instinct dry food with NV freeze dried raw mixed in. So yes, you can buy the original NV Instinct dry food to save some money and just add in some freeze dried raw.

If your cats like freeze dried raw you can feed a bowl of that instead of regular dry food. Freeze dried raw is a lot healthier than dr food, IMO. The only NV freeze dried raw that is a complete diet is the Raw Market one. The Raw Boost Mixers and Minis are treats / add ins to dry food. Just a thought

Strangely enough I tried primal. I was able to get some sample sent to me. I tried it a couple of days and they snubbed their noses at it. I remember I had to mix it with water. I tried it as a substitute for the dry food. They didn't seem to like it. We tried all three types.

Freeze dried raw is supposed to be rehydrated in wateer before serving (package insructions say so) but it can be fed dry
Maybe your cats just didn't like the Primal brand of freeze dried raw. Cats can be picky
Kind of like kids only wanting a brand name of cereal instead of the generic store version of the exact same thing
Since the c ats pick out the freeze dried bits in the NV Raw Boost dry food, try the NV brand of freeze dried raw.

HI there...I did mix it with water as instructed.  Lizzie is not usually picky, it's Gizmo who is.  With Primal, neither of them wanted it.  I'm a bit nervous using Stella and Chewy because of their recalls last year.

I have never done raw but did consider the freeze dried raw because of how simple it seemed.  I didn't know Nature's variety had freeze dried raw (except the boost).  I thought it was just frozen.  I'll be honest...I remember it being very expensive.  I considered it as alternative to the dry food but I was hesitant because I didn't think I could afford this all the time.  Then when I tried the Primal on three different occasions, I gave up when they didn't eat it.  What's weird is they took at least one of them as a freeze dried treat.  They didn't like it wet.

I wish it were simple and I could afford the very best.  :-(  Can you mix the freeze dried with the dry food or does that not work?

Yes, NV does make freeze dried raw
Raw Market is the complete balanced diet one http://www.instinctpetfood.com/instinct-raw-market-for-cats Raw Boost Mixers can be mixed into dry food or fed as treats: http://www.instinctpetfood.com/instinct-raw-boost-mixers-for-cats Raw Boost Minis are treats but they can bemixed into dry food as well http://www.instinctpetfood.com/instinct-raw-boost-minis-for-cats

A few pieces of either the Mixes or Minis freeze dried raw mixed into each serving of dry food is fine. That's what the NV Raw Boost dry food is anyways. If you use the Raw Market complete diet freeze dried raw, you can mix a little more of it into dry food without throwing the nutrition off.

Don't feel bad if you can't do a 100% raw diet of any kind
You just feed the best you can afford for your cats. What you are currently feeding now is great
Have you signed up on the NV web site to get coupons via email? If not, you should do that. NV sends out a coupon every other month or so. The current coupon is for the NV frozen raw food.

wow. ok...I'll have to check them out.  Do I need to wet it if I'm putting in more raw freeze dried pieces?  or a few more is ok?  I do feed them grain free can food too so as you can imagine that drives the price up a bit.

I remember the days of cat chow and nine lives
Those were the simple days LOL!

You can leave the freeze dried raw as is (dry) if you're going to mix it with regular dry food. 10 pieces or so of either the Raw Minis or Raw Mixers freeze dried mixed into each serving of dry food is plenty. You don't want to add too much and end up with an unbalanced diet. if you use the Raw Market freeze dried raw, that one is already a complete diet so you can do half dry food and half Raw Market freeze dried raw or even occasionally feed only the Raw Market and no dry food.
