My cats are not happy with et food in jelly or gravy. I bought the 2 months ago and the previous owners said that they loved wet food in tomato sauce. So far all I have in packets is anything other. This leaves me with finding a specialist supplier or a tomato sauce that suits cats. I would be grateful for suggestions. Thank you.

I am not aware of a cat food with tomato sauce in it. Are you in the US? I had always heard that tomatoes are toxic to cats.

Wecome to TCS and please continue to post any new questions here.

Please do not feed your cat tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce.  I learned this the hard way.  One of my cats snuck some spaghetti sauce off my plate when I left it unattended for a short amount of time to get a drink from the fridge.  My cat had never tried to eat this before so I did not think it would be an issue.  He had severe poop squirts all over my house for a few days.  He did not stop using the litter boxes but could not get to them in time.  It was not fun to clean up so please do not accidentally repeat my mistake with your baby. I am lucky my cat sitter loves my cats and is a close friend since this happened right before we went out of town.  She did not end up having to take him to the vet because he was still eating and drinking water.  My friend was so worried about my cat that she moved into my house instead of doing daily check-ins. She actually was going to take him to the vet if it became necessary to do so. My vet was closed when the poop issues started so she called her vets after hours emergency number for advice about my cat.  The vet told her that tomato sauce is not safe for cats and to keep any eye on him.  If blood appeared in the squirts or he stopped eating she was advised to get him treatment immediately.  She had her vet send her a treatment authorization form via e-mail,  I filled out the form and faxed it back with a copy of my id in case he needed treatment.  I was going to put a credit card on file to but my friend has money so she told me she would cover any up front costs if needed.  Her vet had a better options for after hours treatment and she has been using them for a long time. I trusted her and her vets office to make decisions if I could not be reached fast enough. I also sent my vet a form via e-mail authorizing them to release records to her vet if it was needed.  My vets office agreed to just send me a  bill if they needed to release records since I was out of town and they knew me. This could have also been a very expensive lesson if my cat had needed emergency care or had to be hospitalized from my mistake.

This is an international forum.  Could you please provide more information about where you are located and what foods you have tried.  Someone here may live near you and be able to give you tips about other foods to try.

Medi-cal treats have tomato pumice in it so I don't think tomatoes them selves are. But tomatoes in sause for humans almost always has garlic and onions not good for cats so...
Was the seller just adding tomatoes to the food?

They'll be fine. Tomato's aren't toxic to cats however the leave/stems of the plant itself could be.

It's true that garlic and onions are toxic to cats (causes Anemia) so you really don't want to feed them any sort of prepared pasta sauce as they always contain one of these ingredients but they'll most likely be fine* if one occasionally licks sauce off a plate.

*Basically what I'm saying is that you shouldn't freak out if you see your cat lick some pasta sauce off a plate by running to the pet ER.  Just take it away from him/her.

I found some canned cat foods that contain tomato in sauce:

http://www.nutro.com/natural-cat-fo...ult-cat-seafood-and-tomato-bisque-entree.aspx

https://www.proplan.com/cats/products/savor-adult-chicken-entree-with-tomatoes-in-gravy

https://www.proplan.com/cats/products/savor-adult-chicken-tomato-pasta-entree-in-gravy (don't even get me started on the **pasta** in this food
)

https://www.purina.co.uk/cat/gourmet/product-range/solitaire/mini-fillets-beef-tomato

Tomato sauce for Human consumption should never be fed to a cat because of the garlic and onion it often contains. A lick might not harm a cat but larger amounts may.
