Hairball or attempted vomit?

Hi. Kitty snuck the tiniest piece of pizza cheese and 5 min later started gagging like a barf was coming up. Except no barf, and it was like a raspy choke. He's perfectly fine now but this happened last week as well. What are good hairball breaker-uppers and do I need to go to the vet to get one? He's 7 months old. I have a video but no way to upload it.

Could have been either.  If he's fine now, don't worry about it over much.  There are any number of good hairball remedies out there, both in the pet aisle of stores and home remedies.  Actually, if you search "hairball" on this forum, you'll find tons of information!
