Hi,
My Manx (rumpie), Bootsie was a stray that was dumped in our neighborhood four years ago. He is about 7-8 years old now. We had him on Friskies wet and Purina One dry food but his poop was always large, covered in mucous with sometimes blood that really smelled bad so we decided to change his food to Nutro, grain free. That is when the issues started with vomiting and all hunched over. Took him to vet, did blood work and he had pancreatic issues plus fatty liver. They pumped him full of fluids, gave him serina shot for vomiting and sent home. Long story short, he stopped pooping and took him back to vet to find out he has mega colon. My vet was able to clear him out with enemas and more fluids. About 3 visits $800. Ugh!
I switched him over to Hills I/D and vet told me to put him on Miralax and Lactulose. He said if that didn't work he would need Cisapride, which we ended up getting. He gets 2 1/8 tsps. of Miralax with his wet food 2x a day and Cisapride .05 ml 2x a day. I had him taking the Lactulose but he chokes so bad and then won't move for the rest of the night that I took him off of it.
My problem is the only way I can get him to poop is giving him 1/8 tsp of psyllium in his food or to add the non petroleum hairball formula to his paws for him to lick off (it has psyillium in it). I do also add water into his wet food. Now, he is not pooping again since I have not been adding the psyillum.
What canned food does everyone use that I might be able to switch him to. He has been on Hills I/D for about a month. I only give him wet and dry (small amount) Bootsie had pumpkin once and that helped but then refused to eat it. He won't eat coconut oil or olive oil.
I tried to find the other site that was mentioned here but can't find it. Does anyone have the exact email address for them? I have searched yahoo feline mega colon but it does not come up.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Lisa
