Two nights ago, my fiance saw a post on Facebook that someone who goes to his school found 2 small kittens.  Gorgeous looking ginger boys - extremely young.  Ears still folded, eyes closed.  She was asking if any of her friends could help as she wasn't able to care for them.

Cutting to the chase, I got in touch with her and she told me she had found someone that was home all day to take them.  In between, I had already gotten in touch with my rescue contact who said she could take them. She reiterated info to me to give them about feeding and keeping them warm, oh and how they have to help them eliminate.

Long story short. 2 days later (today) I get frantic messages that the person who has them is completely overwhelmed with their care. Even though she had brought them to a vet for a look over, one already has died.  The other has worms and she thought she could just p/u stuff from Petsmart for the kitten.Ugh.

After many back and forth texts, phone calls and such, I think I finally managed to make them all realize that having my rescue friend come and pick up the kitten ASAP was the most prudent thing to do. She kept insisting she wanted to keep the kitten but her friend, at my urging, was able to make her understand that it's best if she hands him over.

My entire morning at work has been sucked up with trying to help coordinate all of this.  As of now, I believe that everyone has managed to get in touch with each other and hopefully, my rescue contact is on her way to p/u the remaining kitten.  Luckily they only live about 15 minutes from each other.

I'm stressed.  I wish that first night they all had listened to me.  I had offered to come and get them and while I'm no expert, I knew with the help of TCS members I'd be able to manage until the next morning when the rescue would have stepped in.  I know hindsight is 20/20, so no use in beating myself up but I do feel quite sad over this.  I posted a message on Facebook to all my contacts how difficult it is to care for neonatel kitties, and that unless they have experience they should get in touch with someone who can handle it.

In the meantime, I offered to financially help with the care of this kitten if he makes it.

Thanks so much.  I haven't heard from anyone in a couple of hours now so I'm assuming the pick up happened.

If the other makes it, I might be highly tempted to adopt him although I'd have a hard time convincing Tom.

Man this girl is just not getting it.

She still won't say whether or not she'll let the rescue have the kitten and it's been hours. Precious hours.  Supposedly, the was taking it to the vet again and was going to let my contact know later.

I offered my p/u services up until it gets dark if need be. The girl lives close to my house, and I'm not too far from the other person to drop off.

Ugh. Just so much ugh.

Maybe the rescue could offer to let her visit the kitten if the foster is close enough.

If only.  She seems very intent on not handing him over to someone who can responsibly care for him.

So unfortunate. But both the rescue person and I went over and beyond today. I don't think we can do much more at this point :(

I'm sorry to hear the 2nd one didn't make it.
Thanks so much.

Too little too late. She finally agreed to hand him over first thing this morning to her friend; who was going to bring him up to the rescue/foster. Sadly he didn't make it, poor baby.

Why must people put their stubborn pride ahead of others.
Right?

At one point she mentioned that she wanted her young daughter to have the experience of kittens.  So now, the poor girl is probably traumatized by the death of them.

Good going mom

She actually had the nerve to ask if she could now adopt one of the fosters. Some entitlement issues too it seems.

Anyway, thanks everyone for listening.  It was my first foray into this kind of situation so I was more upset than I might usually have been.
