Hello!

Nancy here. Just found your site on the internet, and decided to join. I'm from the bluegrass state of Kentucky. I have been living here with my mom for over 20 years. I have two black cats, Rascal and Shadow. They are 4 years old. I acquired my cats by way of this mother tabby cat who came to our house one day. I started feeding her, and noticed that she was gaining weight. It had been years since I had owned a cat, and knew nothing about how long it took for female cats to get pregnant. I later learned that they can get pregnant at 3 to 4 months of age.
That would never happen to humans. But sure enough, she ended up having 4 adorable kittens. Two black kittens, a long-haired tabby, and a calico kitten. Something happened that the calico kitten disappeared. I looked everywhere, and even posted a picture at this country store nearby. But no one found it. Then a dog owned by some man, came on our property and attacked the long-haired tabby kitten. I was not home at the time. I had gone to get our mail. Then when I got back there was the poor kitten all torn up, and barely moving. We took her to a local vet that was used by a relative. It turned out that it was a really good vet hospital. Unfortunately, the kitten had suffered too many internal injuries and had to be euthanized.
That was really sad. So my mom and I brought the kitten home and I buried her on our property. So we ended up keeping the two black cats, and I later named them Rascal and Shadow. We also had them neutered as we found out that they were males. The mother cat had another litter, but we couldn't keep that many cats, so we took her and her second litter to the animal shelter and had her and her babies spayed and neutered. This woman at the shelter later told us that a woman who lived on a farm adopted all the cats. So we were glad that they found a good home.
So now we still have the two black cats. They are very sweet cats, and are loved by me and my mom. They also have lots of toys, and a cool cat tree that we purchased at a farm store, as it was on sale for half price. ;-) They have a few other perches that I made them, and a few other beds they use off and on. My mom jokes that our house has turned into a cat house. LOL
But they are sweet cats and they are lots of fun to be around. The avatar that I am using is a picture of Rascal and Shadow sitting on their cat tree. They like it a lot!

Thanks for letting me join! I'll try to post more pictures of them later on. Look forward to getting to know everyone, and seeing pictures of your sweet cats.

Hugs to all,

Nancy from Kentucky

Welcome to TCS Nancy, Rascal and Shadow!

Rascal and Shadow look very pleased on their tree and I think it's so wonderful that they can live their lives together. It is such a special bond between the two siblings. Thank you not only for taking them in with their mama but for ensuring all were neutered/spayed and a home for mama and her other litter. The story of the other two siblings was really sad to read but I'm so thankful that mama, your two boys and the other litter all survived because of your kindness.

We love photos here so please post more Shadow and Rascal photos when you can!!

Hi again,

Just saw all your messages. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I really appreciate that. We too were glad that the mom and her second litter found a good home. I think it was the fact that they were already spayed and neutered that enabled them to get a good home. The woman at the shelter said that cats found a home much faster if they were spayed and neutered. So we had that done. I wanted to keep one of the kittens from the second litter, but mom said that two cats was all that we could afford. But I'm glad that we kept the two we have. They are really sweet cats. As for pictures, as soon as this site gives me permission to post some pictures, I'll be glad to post more pictures of my cats. I tried to post a couple of links to a Facebook site I had made my cats, and a YouTube link I had made for them, but it said I currently didn't have permission to post links from other sites. Bummer! :-( Just let me know when I can post some links to my cats. Thanks!

Yes, they do enjoy their cat tree. Too bad only one can sit on top at a time. But they are good at taking turns. It's easy to clean too. Due to the fabric, it makes it easy to vacuum off once in awhile. They have other perches they sit on that I had made them. I'll try to post a picture of those too.

My cats are really special and I make sure they get special treatment. Unlike most people in rural places, I don't let my cats roam the neighborhood. I always read so many stories where cats roamed the neighborhood and never came back. That was really sad! :-( So I take them out at night on their harnesses and leashes. I trained them to walk on those when they are fairly young, so they learned pretty fast. I try to make sure they don't go too far from our house. I keep watch on them and make sure they are nearby when we go out in the daytime. If they hear any strange noises, they always come back in the yard. I also don't let them stay out in really hot weather, or when it's raining or storming. They don't even go out in the winter. However, my large cat Shadow really enjoyed going out in the snow for the past two winters. He and I would go out and walk around in the snow. He really liked it. I made a video of him walking around in the snow one winter. Rascal wouldn't go out. He didn't like the cold. Smart cat. LOL Aside from getting them all their required shots, and flea meds, I just want to make sure they have a good Long Life! They deserve to have a good home, where they feel protected, and loved. Their mom was a stray that some man dumped out of a cage, and then drove off. That was sad. But luckily she found our home, and later found another good home. So I just want only the best for her boys. :-) They even have their own collars with their own name tags. I haven't had them micro chipped yet. I guess it's because they stay close to home, and are mostly indoors. They don't wander far. They go next door to this other yard, but they always come back. There are no dogs in the other yard, and it has a solid white fence all around the yard. But they can get under the fence, and go next door. lol

Anyway, I enjoy having them, and they are lots of fun to be around. Again, just let me know when I am able to post pictures or videos, and I will post them.

Thanks Again,

and Hugs!

Nancy

Glad to hear that the kittens are all taken care of except for the other two.
Hope to see more of Rascal's and Shadows photos.

Hi TabbyTom,

Just saw your message. Thanks for the welcome. That's sweet!
Cool! Just figured out how to post an image. Here's a picture of Rascal (left) and Shadow (right) sitting on a cat bench I made them. They really like it. I'll post a picture of the bench so you can see the entire bench. This took a lot of patience to get them to sit together while I took the picture. But they did a good job!

Just thought I would post a couple of pictures of a couple of pieces of cat furniture I made my cats. Cats love sitting on furniture so I decided to make them some of their own. They like sitting on them. Here is the cat bench I made. It has swivel rollers on the bottom so you can move it around. It took a few days to make this. But thanks to my mom, and her amazing math skills, I got it finished. I did all the physical work, and she helped with the measurements.

Here is a cat perch I made. It was originally a scratching post, but they never used it. So I converted it to a sitting perch. Now they use it all the time. LOL

Here is a toy box I made them. I later stained it a dark oak color. I added rope pulls and put sliders on the bottom to move it around the rug when sweeping.

Nancy! All of the prices you made are amazing! I especially love the bench. I could never make something so professional looking.
And your boys seem to love the bench too..... Rascal and Shadow are clearly so loved and cherished [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Hi Miss Kitty and Tabby Tom,

Thanks for the compliments on my cats and their cat furniture. I really appreciate that.
The cats took to this right away. We put it on a couch, and they really like it. Even one of my sister-in-laws thought it was cool. In fact she said she wanted one too. LOL Mom just filled it with that poly fill stuffing, and that made it really fluffy! It's easy to clean too. I just vacuum it once in a while. If you're good at sewing, you could make this for your cat too.

Thanks again and Hugs!
