I said turkey, though chicken is a close enough second, I'm not sure there's a difference. After that beef, organ meats. NO interest in fish or seafood of any kind. If I offer that, I get the "What planet did YOU just arrive from??" look.
JC has never been too fond of poultry. Tuna is his all-time favorite. Many a time he has been outside on the upstairs balcony, and I've simply "broken the seal" on a can of tuna with the can opener, and he has appeared within seconds. He doesn't get it very often - usually only on holidays or his birthday - but he'd probably eat it every day if it were offered.
fran: what's curious is my cat *loves* turkey .....but chicken, that's another story..... she gives the impression like she could live without chicken (i have seen her eat it though not with much enthusiasm)
Is it ok to give cats tuna out of a can (regular people food tuna)? And what about sliced lunch meat? I was wondering because I used to give Dori little pieces of meat from my sandwich but read somewhere on line it wasn't a good idea. If it's safe I am sure she would love a little sometimes.
squirtle: This is just my opinion but I think the problem we run into with giving "people food" is that it's not a good practice (let's be honest) and what happens with us humans is we can't resist the cute faces/meows and so what's supposed to be 3x a year turns into 1x a week
Squirtle - I give Jeepers cat tuna, it's real tuna but it doesn't have all the junk put in 'human' tuna like brine or oil, I use 'my cat' tuna but I think it's UK only, it's really cheap as well 29p which is roughly 54c a can and one can will do 1 - 2 days depending on how much your kitty eats.
This is just so wierd cos previously I would have put chicken. I dont have meat in the house unless for the cats but I do buy those Quorn slices (supposed to be chicken substitute!) My cats go completely crazy for it and would pass over real meat any day for it!
odd huh!
You did'nt have Teryaki beef jerky on the list. My cats will try to swipe that stuff out of my mouth! But only if its the Oberto brand.
They got locked in the office one night, found a bag of it, and had a party. Unfortunately Emily is highly allergic to most food, so there was Teryaki vomit EVERYWHERE.
Tuna definatly! All my cats go crazy for it. Every once in a while I will open a can and split it between all 5 cats. I used to give it to them alot but since learning from the cat site that too much people tuna can be harmful to cats, I only give it to them as a special treat.
Salmon without a doubt!! They LOVE the Whiskas pouches of salmon in gravy. I know its probably kitty junk food- but they only get it occasionally.
I spoil them sometimes by giving them a little cooked fresh salmon and lobster- lucky kitties
On an everyday basis though, they like chicken as the main ingredient in their dry food. They get Iams original, and much prefer it over the oceanfish flavored variety.
