Cat has moderate injuries, to vet or not?

I have a male kitty, 5 months old. Yesterday I found him stuck in a tree. Actually stuck, he was wedged between the "v" of the branches. His right side, the rear leg, abdomen and front shoulder, were wedged at a downward angle for a possibility of 5 hours. When we were finally able to get up to him (he was about 20 feet up the tree), and we pulled him out, he was so stuck that we had to use a small amount of force to raise him out of the wedge.
He now walks sideward and wobbly on his right rear leg and the right side of abdomen is protruding/swollen about 2 inches out. He shows willingness to eat and drink, he tries running, playing, jumping. He purrs and shows affection. After the ordeal, he slept for about six hours straight. When I touch him and put light pressure on him, he doesn't yelp, or wiggle, or act like it hurts him.
(Warning! Gross detail: this morning when he went for bowel movement it was water with yellow tint, then a small amount of solid waste.)
Does this seem like a moderate injury that will pass, or are these the signs of something that will get worse if I don't take him to the vet? Thanks for your time.

This definitely seems like a larger problem. I would get him to the vet soon. The swelling and walking funny is what worries me.

Thank you for being a responsible guardian and taking your baby to the vet right away.  I hope he will heal soon.

Good to hear! It could be that he is okay. But with that swelling I'd worry a bit about internal injuries. Better safe than sorry!

Emergency vets are expensive but at time needed. No doubt your car need to see a vet. Thanks for taking responsibility.

My kitty is doing well. He is not seeming to have any trouble. Emergency Vet said to stretch his leg for him, in and out, and to keep an eye on his belly, make sure to keep him watered, and put him on wet food for a day or two. And watch his "output", if things don't show improvement or get worse, take him to my vet, which I may do anyway. Thanks for showing you care! [emoji]128512[/emoji]

you should consider keeping on wet food for good. Wet food is better to keep them hydrated plus they wont gain as much weight like they do on kibble. once you get the cat on wet food-they will be much more healthier. male cats often get plugged up-wet food diets reduce the chances of this happening. If your kitty will eat wet food I highly recommend you keep him on wet food and offer kibble as a snack only.

The only thing to watch out for would be internal bleeding if there was an injury but I would think you would have seen signs by now. What did the vet think was the swelling?

Just be on the lookout for bloody pee or poop. I hope others chime in-its been years since I had a kitty get injured and all I remember was them saying the next 24 hours were critical and we made it through but she had a broken pelvis but she healed up well. she limped for  a few months but after getting her to climb stairs the limp went away and she only had to be on canned pumpkin to keep the bowels moving.

Keep us posted with your baby!

Good to hear he is doing well. Hopefully he feels normal again soon.
