good morning!

today is the last day of July! it always seems like the summer moves by so fast. this morning i've been thinking about things i'd like to do before fall gets here.

so with that on my mind, for today's Question of the Day......

Do you have any plans for the rest of this summer (or the current season where you live)?   Any projects, trips/vacations, gatherings, cookouts, chores, preserving, yard sales, etc?

i'll start!

i'm afraid i've not got anything particularly exciting going on here for the remainder of the summer.
i have some chores to do, as well as some jam/jelly making still to do.

i've been working through my fridges (2) and freezers (uprights, 2) removing anything that's been forgotten, and reorganizing them. i'm close to having this completed, and am chipping away at the last of it on a regular basis. mostly, i've found scraps of veggies that i froze, thinking i'd use them in making chicken or beef stock, but never did.

i've got more jam/jelly making to do. several more batches of blueberry jam, some grape jelly, and some raspberry jelly.

my focus is actually more on the fall now. i've got some things that are better done when it starts to get cooler outside!

so, how about you? i'd love to hear what you've got planned for the rest of your summer!

What I have planned is very boring. I need to have back surgery, which will put me out of commission for yard work for a number of months, so I want to get my ratty yard in shape before I have the surgery. Last summer, I was unable to do much of anything out there, and now it's a jungle. I've had spinal injections and am on new meds, so I feel better now and can do most of it. There are beds to weed, Roundup to spray, and shearing of shrubbery to be done. Then I can relax and go to see the surgeon.

Next summer, I'd like to drive down to Springfield and see the new Lincoln museum there.

Good luck getting your yard in shape before your surgery.  When you go to visit the Lincoln Museum get there really early before they open.  Hubby and planned to do this last year.  We tried to go in the middle of the week while school was in session.  We got there early in the afternoon and there was a massive line.  We decided to do something else since there was really bad weather in the area and we did not feel it was safe to stand outside in line. There were tornado warnings in the area so we decided to move on to our next destination.

Rick is going to Oregon in September for a week. I plan to take some time off work and do things I want to do: shopping and dinner with GFs, things like that.

I'd like to get the bedroom remodeling finished (it would be nice).

Make more Zucchini Relish. I tried it last year and, much to my surprise, it was a huge hit with family and friends. We are down to one jar left....I need to make more. Problem is that we didn't put a garden out this year (and we are glad we didn't as we are in a drought), so I'll have to buy zucchini and peppers. But worth it as that relish is really quite good.

A big Labor Day cookout at our house to end the summer.

Usual summery stuff I suppose - going to the lake to swim, go for another spa visit, hopefully visit some festivals and special events. There is also a new Natural History Museum nearby that I have been meaning to go to. It just opened this year.

Also, would love to have afternoon tea at the Edwardian mansion museum again.

July was a busy month, so going to (hopefully) make August more of a relaxation month!

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
We will be going to Maine for 2 weeks in 2 weeks. That's all I do all summer. I work most days and those 2 weeks we drive around seeing other beaches or stay at the lake and sit in the water reading a book. Last year it was so hot then cold then rainy but I got 6 books read in 2 weeks. Drove Jon nuts because he likes day tripping. So hopefully this year I don't tick him off with my reading and go driving around looking at junk in people's yards. He loves tractors and old cars and rusty men's junk piles I call it. So I usually drive him around and he looks around like a puppy. LOL. Then we get ice cream or something yummy to eat then head back to camp and let the cats out and sit in the water. Honeybee loves the pontoon boat. Floey used to sit on the boat with us too. Pumpkin face slithers into the woods and looks around for critters to kill or she sleeps on the deck next door. They are never there-it was so bizarre the first 3 years we couldn't find her-then I walked next door and see a tricolor kitty sleeping in the sun on the deck. She just likes being by herself for some reason.

I love it at camp. Its a smaller place and easier to keep clean-its usually cooler at night so no AC. I sleep better there. They have lots of flowers and gardens which I help weed n water when I am up. plus its just pleasant to look at. they have a pond with tons of frogs. The first year Honeybee went nuts hopping around after them. Now they just interest  her but she doesn't chase them anymore.

We will be 7 miles from the ocean so we can go exploring up and down the Maine coast-eat lots of clams and scallops. ice cream. swimming. hopefully this year we do some hiking or something because I really don't like sitting all day anymore. I need some kind of physical exercise. We have a kayak and I used to park it out in the deep end and dive off it. But sometimes its too windy to put it in the water because it blows you back into shore. Its just heaven. I look forward to our 2 weeks in heaven every year.

the hardest part will be no Floey on the deck sleeping in the chairs. I have a picture somewhere of floey and pumps sitting together. Honeybee was being a turd and chasing both of them. So they sat together. This is very rare. Floey used to walk around the lawn following me around to give her some kibble. She was always eating everyone elses food.  She wasn't a lap cat but she would lay on your feet and just purr. I really hope our time goes ok and the girls don't get sick or start pining away for the Floey.

The other thing I would like to do is at home here go to the lake a few times and swim again. I really enjoy swimming. It helps me sleep. I can sleep all night long after a good swim.

it's heading towards the end of Winter here.  I'm out in the garden doing as much as I can before it gets too hot and humid.

I've got the Garden Club coming in a week to walk around my property so I have been tidying up the yard and cleaning out flower beds. We have an acre of extensive flowers and lawn so nothing is perfect, it would take  a crew of helpers to have that! Of course now the heat is taking a toll, the weeds are ferocious and the bugs destroy plants overnight,  oh the joys of gardening!

is your grass (in your yard) growing this summer? here, the grass isn't growing (just trying to survive) but the weeds are still growing, of course!

ahhh...sounds like you have plenty to do for the rest of the summer!
i have yard work to do too, though mine is just mowing over the weeds (between my perennials). with the heat, not sure if you're having the hot weather we're having here, it might be good to pace yourself.

Yes, we've been having hot weather, but lately we've been having cooler spells and rain every few days. The grass had gone dormant for a while. I wanted to spray the whole lawn for weeds, but the grass is so stressed, I'm putting that off until fall. On the cooler days, I go out at 3 or 4 o'clock when the part of the yard I'm working on is in the shade. Low 80s is not bad if the sun is not shining on you. I've almost completed the weeding and Roundup spraying and will soon be able to do some shearing. If I can get that done and mulch spread, I will feel much better.

very nice!

may i ask -- did you have an overload of zucchini from your garden last year? a few summers ago, i had a vegetable garden. i made the mistake of planting 9 zucchini plants (from seed). wow! i had zucchini literally coming out of my ears!
that was the year i made zucchini relish. i also ate zucchini pretty much every day for a while.

and a big cookout on Labor Day too!
