Thought I would post here just in case anyone can help reunite this wonderful cat with its owners!!

My husband and I encountered a cat while on a walk this evening that was super friendly, and seemed lost. We petted it for a while, then walked on. But after we got home, started to fret and worry .. so hubby went out again to check it out.

Cat in same place, clearly terrified of cars, and lost. It's obviously a housecat - very soft fur, well cared for, super loving cuddly affectionate and neither of us think it can have been wandering the streets for long. It is currently in our garage, with water, litter box and food. Tomorrow we will take it to the rescue where we volunteer to see if it is chipped.

Thank you so much for helping the little guy out! So many people just ignore lost cats and keep walking.

I really hope it's chipped. If it isn't, the first thing I would do is knock on some doors in the area where you found him. If he hasn't been out long, chances are he belongs to one of the neighbors. Next phase would be printing out ads about finding a cat. If you do that - do not post his picture. Just say you found a lost cat. Anyone looking for him will be sure to contact any "found cat" ad. They then will have to provide a description to prove it's their cat.

I'll feature the thread, just in case. Maybe you'd like to mention the area where you found him and members can help you search online for lost cat ads in that area?

Another thing you could try is taking a picture of the cat to vet offices in the area.  Maybe one of the staff members will recognize the cat and know the owner. Anne also gave you excellent advice.  Thank you for taking care of this lost baby.

I agree about providing more information about where this cat was found.  Some area's have website where people post adds about their lost pets.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the good wishes and advice! It was a happy ending!

The cat was chipped, and we just got home from returning the lost cat to his loving family. They just moved to the area, so it is likely the cat, AKA Sir Mouser, escaped the house and then didn't know the way home. Yay for chips!

Yeah, he'd been missing for "a few days - no daddy he was gone a week!" and very touching to see the little girl squeeze him in a happy teddy bear hug and carry him off into the house.

The father thanked us for taking him in and taking the time to find them. It was obviously as thoroughly loved a cat as I'd thought he was. I am very happy it turned out so well.

I'm not sure of your location but in my area we have a group on Facebook for lost and found pets in our area. People post and many pets have been reunited with their family. Check to see if there is one for your local area and post a picture on there. You can also call vet offices, local shelters and leave your information and if someone comes looking they will have it for the family.

Good luck!! I know I was beside myself when my Zander went missing for a few days. I'm sure his family is missing him.

A little late with my info but I am so happy he is back with his family. That's what happened to Zander, I was lucky she did find her way home.

Yeah...the most obvious things to do were post flyers that we'd found a cat, check for online sites, and speak with vets/rescues/shelters. I posted here in desperation because:
  • Town ordinance forbids the posting of flyers except in specific locations like community boards in grocery stores - which were all closed due to the late hour that we found the cat
  • checking online, I found 4 facebook pages, and 6 websites for lost pets for my area, none of which seemed up to date - most of them didn't even have search functions or even ways to separate out reports of lost cats from dogs!
  • it being saturday night, all the vets and most of the shelters were closed the next day.
One rescue was open, the one where we volunteer, so we had to wait until they were open in the afternoon on Sunday. Luckily there was one person present who could scan for chips, and the cat had a chip. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon on the phone with the company the chip was registered to - no joke, I spent over an hour on hold.

It was very frustrating, and made me afraid of what might happen if we had a pet emergency on the weekend.

I am so happy you found his way home. Don't know what I'd do if Boots came up missing.
It's very upsetting. When Zander went missing for those few days I was a wreck. I hardly ate or slept. I am very happy she found her way home because we were in a new place and it was just as easy for her to get turned around and lost for good or injured.

Wonderful!  I just hope and pray they will keep him indoors-only from now on, where he'll be safe and they will not have to stress wondering about him!

They try to keep him indoors. Apparently they chipped him because he's an escape artist.  I suspect we'll be running into him again, but now we know where to bring him.
