Hi,

I am new to this site. I have been looking around for some answers as to whether my girl is going to give birth soon. All say the same symptoms, restlessness, discharge, loss of appetite etc. But my cat is throwing me mixed signals!

I am unsure when she mated however she vomited all week from the 13th of june. I read that they vomit in week three or four. So I calculated that she was in week three. which would mean she is at the end of her 9th week now. She is quite large, I see the kitties moving all the time! She has milk discharge on her nipples that have gone crusty? I thought I noticed her breathing rate faster the other day but she has been her normal self, in fact she is hyper-active, she is at this moment, running around the house like mad! She eats like normal, she has been looking for places to have them for about 5 days now which I have provided her numerous places(at night she gets locked in her own room with a kittening box that she sleeps in), her stomach is big and hard annnnnd she hasn't been licking that much which is odd because I have seen discharge and I thought her vulva looked a bit swollen.  What does all this mean? I am not sure when she will go into labour, do you think it is soon? It's killing me, waiting for so long! I just wanna see these little chrubs haha.

Sorry for all the questions and info, I am obviously new to this.

Thankyou

I'm no expert on pregnant cats but to me it sounds like she is close. I imagine that like humans, hormones do crazy things to cats. It doesn't seem odd to me that she's running around. Pregnant ladies do crazy things sometimes. Someone who is more experienced in this area will be able to give you more insight though.

Best of luck to you! Keep us updated on the pregnancy, and check in on her every so often to make sure she's handling everything okay when birthing time comes.

Its apparently nearing, but the exact hour is never possible to say.  The Waiting game isnt easy!

In the last day or two before delivery she will almost surely drop - ie she will suddenly look less rounded.

Also, if she wants tummy rubs, do so.  Its a nice massage, and helps somewhat with the hormones coming in.

Otherwise it sounds normal and nice...

Thankyou so much, I appreciate any advice :)

I am glad to hear her crazy behavior is all normal.

StefanZ it looks like her belly has dropped, it looked different yesterday, I asked my housemates if it looked as if it had dropped and they agreed. So hopefully it is soon...She is currently curled up asleep on my bed with me right now. She always wants to be with me. Will keep you guys updated.

If she always wants to be with you, then she may be seeking comfort. I remember when I was a child, my mom was helping one of our cats give birth. Xena was contracting pretty bad and every time my mother tried to get up to go to the bathroom Xena would yell at her VERY aggressively. Cats are pretty cool like that. ;)

Keep an eye out for any excessive movement in her belly. Tightening of it, etc.

Thankyou,

I am about to leave for work so I have put her in her room, she seems calm and doesn't mind me leaving. I hope she doesn't have them while I am away..

If she does, she should be fine. Cats are amazing at taking care of themselves. But as stated, she may well decide to wait.

This reminds me of when one of my cats, Stormy, had gotten pregnant the second time. Stormy and I had always had a very special connection and she let me play midwife for her. Her kittens all lived and she was never concerned when I held them. I had also had Stormy since she was born so she really trusted me.

Long story short: Cats are amazing and take lots of comfort sometimes in their people being there during birth. So I'm sure she's really going to appreciate you being there for her. This is so exciting.

Also some advice I've been seeing here a lot: Keep Momma indoors and away from any male cats. She can get pregnant as soon as a week after giving birth. As soon as she's done nursing them (about 6 weeks, but someone with more experience can confirm this) she should get spayed if you can manage. Lots of people here can help you find some spay and neuter clinics within your price range.

Got home this arftenoon and all seems fine, although she was looking for new places to nest, she even tried to squeeze her way into my tiny desk draw. hahaha it was hilarious. Other than that she is still her normal self...

And don't you worry Commanderscott I will definitely post plenty of pics when they arrive. in fact, I don't think I will put the camera down they'll be so darn cute

GUYS I THINK SHE IS IN LABOUR!

I oke up this morning and let her out of her room. She normally runs to her food bowl because she is sooo hungry. But this morning she just laid down at my feet and wanted a belly rub. She has NEVER done that. and she hasn't stopped stop meowing at me. Constantly purring!! Then I had a look at her vulva. And this orange mususy thing was there! Is this her mucus plug? Well anyways I can tell, she is not herself so labour it is! Woohooo about time. hhahaha So my question is how long now? She has been like this for about 30 mins. When will I see a kitten? Thanks for your help. Like promised I will show plenty of pics of the kittens.

It depends on where she is in her labor. Stage one can last 24 hours before pushing starts. If she labored all night already, it could be sooner. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Soooo SHE HAD 4 KITTENS. She had her first at 9:15 and  last at 10:54. It was way earlier than I had expected. She did really well and all babies are okay. However.... the first kitten arrived and it looks like it's eye isn't fully closed.

Here she is with her four babies.

2 Black and white

1 full grey

1 grey and white

Here is the eye of the first born. It doesn't look as bad now that he/she has dried but it got me alittle worried as it should obviously not be like this. Will this kitten grow up to be blind?

Any advice would be great

Beautiful kitties! It's been a loooooong time since I've dealt with newborn kitties so I can't say if something is wrong with the kitten's eye. I suggest that you call your vet and ask if it warrants a visit. And if it does, bring Momma and all the other kitties too. That's just my suggestion. Someone with more experience may be able to help you out more.

Thank,

Uhm something I forgot to mention, is that the first was born without a sac so the sack had popped while still in mumma. So this lil kitty was born coming through the canal by itself with nothing to protect it. My thought are that it's eye got alittle damages on it's way out as had no sack to lubricate the birth.

If it gets any worse I will take it to the vet but for now it's a happy healthy kitten.

Im not so sure its a good idea, unless there is a real need for the visit with the whole band.

Kittens that age dont have any natural immunity as yet, and the contagion risk isnt dont necessary for them...

So phone the vet and ask if he wants to see them too, or just the kitten with the eye.

Eye kitten you can carry at your chest, perhaps in a little pouch.

Yea, I suspect there may be damages on this eye.  Probably not much to do, but do phone your vet.

Its "just" one eye, no?
