Hello all. I'm new here. My 4 year old cat Jasper is very vocal. Since I've had him he meows for me to hold him. He doesn't do it to my mom or anyone else in the house hold. He has been to the vet and has been given a clean bill of health. I mention it to the vet and he didn't really say much just laughed it off. He will literally follow me around howling until I pick him up and let rally hold him to me like a baby. And sometimes when I try to put him down I have to peel him off of me because he digs his claws in not wanting to get down!

My question is does anyone else have a cat who does this? Is this normal behavior? I have 2 other cats and they very lovable but not to this extent. It doesn't bother me I'm just curious. I'm not sure if he's feeling insecure or something? I just want him to be comfortable. He was a stray kitten I found at a gas station. I'm not sure if that matters? He also sleeps with me and stays in my room a lot.

Any help is appreciated and it's nice to meet everyone's

Thanks!

Jessica.

Hi and welcome!  It sure sounds like Jasper considers you his mommy since you found him when he was little.  Maybe he is still insecure that he will get lost again? I really don't know since he's already 4 years old.  You would think he would have forgotten that by now but it sounds like that anxiety has never left him and you are his savior.  How does he get along with the other cats?  Cats may be clingy to humans if they don't have a kitty buddy to cuddle up to.  I have one kitty Honey who always follows me room to room, well most of the time.  And when I sit down she is right there beside me.  At night she sleeps beside me, but she doesn't want to be held all the time.  I think it's sweet, but I think Jasper definitely has some anxiety and needs you to help him.

Thank you for the reply Ginny! Yes he does very well with the other cats. They even sleep together during the day. He seems to be fine in all other aspects. I do worry about him having anxiety though. I'm not sure what to do about it though. Thanks so much for your reply!! It's nice to meet you :)

My Julie is almost 9 years old and follows me around like that. If I pick her up, she will lay there on my forearm with her head in the crook of my elbow, purring.  If I am sitting down, she wants in my lap or will lay on my hand on the mouse. If I lay down, she will be on top of me, walking up and down or in my lap or on my chest.

I would not worry about it too much. She knows she can manipulate you and has you trained. Welcome to being owned by a cat.  As you can see, I am owned by 4 of them.

Thanks for the reply! And they are just so precious! My mom says my dog has me trained because we'll be talking and if he wants attention he will just bark over us until I get his toy and play with him haha. These animals are so much smarter than I like to realize at times.

You could try one of those feliway plug ins and see if it calms him down.
