Hi, sorry for a slightly late Question of the Day. I hope it's still Saturday in some places.



Today's question: If you could create an extra National Holiday in your country when would it be? What would it be called?

In Japan we get a new national holiday this year. We already have Green Day, for enjoying nature; Ocean Day, Old People's Day, Worker's day, Coming of Age Day, Foundation Day, Girl's Day, Children's Day and a whole load more I can't remember.

This year we also have Mountain day, a National Holiday so you can appreciate mountains

I think we should have a National Kindness Day, a day where we all have to be nice to each other and, rather than going to work or to school, take some time off to volunteer or do something nice for someone we know.

I think it should be on a Monday, so we start the week off in the right frame of mind. Let's make it the last Monday in September. Summer is almost over by then, so we need something to look forward to after the summer holidays have finished.

What about you, when would your new national Holiday be?

i'd call it National Community Day, and we'd all work together to do something or make something helpful/useful for our communities. adults, seniors, and children could all help out in one way or another. like having a bbq, selling barbecue chicken and some side dishes -- the proceeds going to help fund a senior citizen center, or a small library, etc.

uh-oh, i forgot when the holiday would be. i think it should be in august, between july 4th and labor day holidays.

Must have been a long day for you, ran into tomorrow. . .it's still only the 30th :D.

We need a holiday between President's Day and Memorial Day. 2 1/2 months without a day off! :eek: Also a holiday in August. Our federal holidays are too bunched up. Between November and January, there are too many holidays, then a long dry spell without any. Let's try to spread them around a little :tongue2:.

National Netflix and Chill day. Seriously, some people are constantly on the go, they forget to just stop and relax. This would give them the opportunity to remember to slow down and just enjoy a movie or two with the family

Well, except that "Netflix and Chill" has a subtext. . .lots of babies 9 months later! ;)

I vote for a National Acceptance Day.  Guess what! There are people out there that don't look like you. They don't dress like you. They have different beliefs than you. SO WHAT? How about we stop forcing others to look, act, believe and dress according to a standard that was set up thousands of years ago by men who believed the world was flat?

How about we take the time to get to know one another before we judge one another? I really think that on my holiday, every city needs to have a HUGE potluck lunch or supper. Does anything bring people together quite like food does? There would be foods from every culture and it would be an informal gathering.

My holiday would take place on April 20th because we'd be bringing in something else that could bring us all together if we wanted it to 
. We'd laugh, eat and get to know one another.Haters can stay home.

Love and acceptance would live and shine bright at my party


The tequila would also flow freely but that's beside the point!

National Rescue Day - a little after Christmas/New Years. Everybody would go to their local shelters/animal sanctuaries/wildlife sanctuaries and learn about all the animals, give their time to helping out, learn why pets are NOT disposable commodities ( :wife: ), and hopefully donate or adopt too. It would be a wonderful antidote to the influx of abandoned animals that happens after the holiday season, thanks to pets being given as gifts and then surrendered or kicked out :soap: It would help with animal conservation too, by highlighting endangered breeds.

 Hey, maybe that's the answer to Japan's population decline! We should have that one over here.

Maybe we should have a National Tequila Day too?
