`My cat is in her first planned pregnancy and has been spotting for just under a day. Not heavy or constant, and seems to be fresh blood, not dark or brown. In herself, she appears well, is eating, drinking, sleeping and playing as normal and shows no signs of distress.

I have spoken to my mature and trustworthy vet on the phone who said just keep an eye on her and did not think he needed to see her immediately.

Do any experienced breeders know if this happens sometimes and she can still go on to healthy full term kittens? I am worried about miscarriage, dead babies or early labour, which of course is not viable at this early stage, I know.

Its not the usual, even if it happens.  You have contacted your good vet, which would be our next advice...

I think its just to be observant, but hope and wait.  Especielly as she herself seems entirely OK.

Are you sure it coming from vulva?  It could possibly come  the other way too.  Not that cats are renown for hemorroides (english spelling?), but these are also known to give occasionally spotting of fresh blood...

I know my answer wasnt really helpful.  Its simply, as I know, we are on unsure ground.  I do always warn for spotting fresh blood, it makes me scary, I do see and know several bad scenarios. - Surely you do it too, as you are worried.

But I have seen her on this forum a number of examples, where the spotting didnt get worse, and the delivery etc when it come with time, was without problems.   So this much I can say.

That is, if dont see other alarming signs as extra addition, of course.   :)

One thing more.  Do you know her normal temp?  If not, begin and take it, so you know what its usually and what its every day.

Its double important if you dont want to bother her measuring in the butt, but measure in the armpit of the foreleg.

This way you have an extra mode to discover upcoming crisis.

Just like in human pregnancies, cats can spot during pregnancy and still deliver normally As long as she is acting normal she should be fine. Make sure sure she is drinking lots of water, the number one cause of miscarriage is dehydration. Keep a close eye on her, I pray that she delivers safely when her time is due. All the luck, and keep us posted!

Thanks, I suppose I am looking for some reassurances that whilst there are risks there is also hope of a healthy outcome for kittens and Mum.

She is a thirsty and active cat in general and I see her drinking, so know she can't be dehydrated. Today seems less spotting than yesterday, and what little I see on her vulva is now brown, not fresh and not enough to leave a mark on a tissue even.

She is happily lounging, resting and playing. Its taken such a journey just to get to this point.... She's a pedigree Tonkinese. I would be so sad should we lose this first pregnancy.

Will keep you posted.
