Hey guys,

So my kitten just got spayed yesterday (and shes been absolute hassle).

I helped her use the litterbox a few minutes ago and noticed a clumpy yellow discharge from her vagina. I get weird things happen on occasion so to avoid being overprotective and annoying I'd thought I'd ask a community first.

And Google isn't the best place to look for things either sometimes...

Any help is nice.

Also just to clarify, it was a very small amount and I found it on her, not in the box.

Welcome to the Cat Site! This is absolutely the best place to get advice from  fellow cat people. I don't think your kitten should be having that kind of discharge after a spay and a call into your vet is in order. They may want you to bring her in, too, but a call first would be good just to find out it's nothing to worry about. Yellow discharge, though, usually indicates an infection.

Thanks. Yeah, I called the vet and the tech said it was weird and they would call back and just to monitor it for now.

Definitely keep an eye on her and see if there is any additonal discharge. Why do you say she's been a hassle? And why do you need to help her to the litter box?

Update, there was more this morning when she peed and hasn't gone poop yet. I gave her some more waterto keep her hydrated.

She's a hassle because the moment she came home she's been restless and rolling around to get the cone off and she's really smart at figuring it out. Sleeps fine when I go to bed but didn't really sleep off the anesthesia the first day home.

She wont go with the cone on either, just walks in and walks out several times then looks at me and thats how I know she needs to go.

I think you can take the cone off.  Most cats don't need it.  She sounds very uncomfortable.

Have you called the vet to ask about the additional discharge?

The yellow stuff might be the cleaning solution they use to sterilize the incision site.  As long as the incision itself looks good and isn't weeping, I'd say she's probably okay.  Regarding the pooping, since she was fasting and didn't eat anything for several hours and she's probably had some kind of pain medication, there's nothing to be eliminated from the body.  Sometimes pain meds can slow down the elimination process. She should be back to pooping normally in a day or two, once she's back on her regular feeding routine.  If it was me, I'd take the cone off.  Most kitties are good about not bothering the incision site excessively. It is normal for them to lick it some because they are trying to get the medicine smell off as well as the hospital smell and make the area smell like them again.
