My 4yr old tabby had 13 teeth removed due to gingivitis last month. Long story short, all went well and I am even doing my best at cleaning the remaining teeth so the rest stay healthy. I noticed one tooth had bright red around it so I called the vet this morning. We took him in and the vet noticed a "root tip" was left behind! This was a traumatic experience for my Bubba and our family! He is a large cat and the thought of this being redone makes me sad! Anyone else experience this before and were they charged for having this done? I'm thinking there should be no charge since the vet left a piece of tooth behind! Any feedback would be appreciated[emoji]128570[/emoji]

I have no experience with anything like this.  It does sound traumatic!  Hopefully someone can give you the benefit of their experience on this.

I've heard of others having similar problems. It's just as bad with human dentists. There's not many regulations in place and they want repeat customers.

Thank you for your feedback[emoji]128570[/emoji] You would think being charged $200 for X-rays they would have seen this! I don't think I will be going back to this vet again! My cat is scared now to go to the vet that he wet his carrier, shakes and loses hair! I don't want him to go under anesthesia again! He was sick afterwards! I had to give him Pepcid AC.

I don't think they normally do another x-ray after the procedure but they really should. Unfortunately he's gonna have to go back under and get the fragment removed or it will eventually lead to an infection. Hopefully after they remove it and give him some antibiotics this will become a thing of the past and he won't be traumatised from it.

Thank you taking the time to reply[emoji]128570[/emoji] I didn't realize this could become infected! I am patiently waiting for the vet to call back so I can schedule the procedure[emoji]128530[/emoji] I will call the office to move things along faster[emoji]128522[/emoji]

Yea, fragments have trouble healing as the skin can't close completely and bacteria gets in it. Have you been able to make an appointment?

My guy has had 3 dentals, with removals. My vet always takes x-rays before and after the procedure to be sure there are no roots left in.

I would think a repeat surgery, including x-rays would be at no cost. At least that is standard practice...

Bubba had the root tip removed yesterday and hopefully no more show up down the road! Disappointed in the Doctor! He tried to charge me $150 for the medicine! Long story short I was not charged! Don't think I will be going back to this vet!

That's great. Sometimes you've just got to stand your ground. It's great that you didn't get charged again, that would of just added insult to injury.
