Hello all , my neighbor saved 3 cats and gave my family one of them . I was wondering if anyone here could give me an idea of what kind of cat this little fellow is? Thanks in advance .

It doesn't show well in the pictures but he has shades of orange on his back legs and stomach . His sister is more orange than him and his other brother was black with white paws .

]He is pretty, with his big pointed ears! He is a Domestic Shorthair, like 99% of the cats in the world. It is difficult to tell from the pictures what his coat is, but I think he is either grey or brown tabby -exactly what type of tabby markings are unclear. It is not unusual to have a mix of orange and tabby in a male - it is more unusual in a female, where orange is not a common colour.

If you post a picture of him from the side, showing his coat clearly, we could tell you whether he is classic, mackerel or marbled tabby.

Ok , he finally calmed down enough to stretch out for me to get a few pictures . I hope these are good enough . He is grey and it seems if he lays in the window enough , maybe getting sun the orange tint comes out more on his stomach and back legs.

Either way we've only had him a week and he has got much bigger in just a week [emoji]128522[/emoji]. We love him so much .

Oooh, very clear stripes. He's a mackerel tabby.

The lighting in the second set of pictures is really different from the first set. If the first set is more accurate, he's a blue mackerel tabby. Blue is the dilute of black and is the term used in cat fancy in place of gray. (Don't ask me why :dk:) If the second set is more accurate on the color he's a brown mackerel tabby, genetically black but with really warm undercoat which gives the brown/orange tones. I'm going to say "and white" with whichever color he is because it looks like he has white feet.

It's unlikely that the orange parts you're seeing are really from the red gene. The great majority of the time a cat with both black and red will be female. A male with both colors is a genetic anomaly with XXY chromosomes instead of XY and is very uncommon.

Thank you so much , he's so energetic it's unbelievable , but he doesn't claw up the furniture and he is 100% litter box trained . He is perfect for our house .

Thank you again.

yes, definitely a mackerel tabby with those long thin stripes. As for the he colour, if he has definite orange patches then he would be a patched tabby, but as Goldycat says, this is unusual in a male.

Hello people . I thought I would post a quick update . Bandit is really mischievous and  loves to stay up all night playing in the dark while, climbing curtains , knocking stuff off of the nightstands and meditaing on my head while myself and the family sleeps lol! Here's a few recent pictures .

He is so pretty. Kittens tend to be rambunctious, so you have a while to go yet before he settles down!

The layout of the stripes is somewhat unusual.  Although technically its the mackerel type, loud and clear - striped or tigrered as its called in other languages -

BUT. The overall looks of them reminds me a little of the marbles of a marbled bengal, how they can look in a natural child of one such bengal, that is...  Marbled bengal is a refined variant of classic bulls-eye tabby, so normally its another tabby gene than the striped tabby...

He perhaps has both, and although the striped gene dominates over the classic, it anyhow shines through...

Speculating some.   :)

Well , he isn't such a baby anymore lol. He weighs 20 pounds and is the most loveable cat I've ever been around .

Its been just shy of a year and I thought I would update this thread .

Is it me or does he look like a main coon?

Do house cats often get 20 pounds ? My other house cats in the past didn't get this big .
