Hi,
About a week ago I got a new cat. He's very sweet and hasn't been aggressive to my other cat at all, but he's been hidden for the whole week. He comes out at night, when I'm asleep, and I know he's eating, drinking and using his litter box. I also know he's somewhere in my basement, as that's where his food is. Should I just leave him be until he's comfortable to come out? I have no idea how to lure him from his hiding spot.
Thanks in advance.

It is very common for cats to hide when they go to a new home. It is great that he is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom.

It is ok to interact with him indirectly. You can sit on the floor and just talk to him. You can even read a book to him. Sitting on the floor at his level makes you look smaller and will help him feel more comfortable. Once he decides to stop hiding you can try using play to help him learn to relax around you. Wand toys like the da bird are great for bonding. Let him decide when he is ready to be petted or cuddled.

Okay, thank you. I'm just worried since I haven't actually seen him for a week, but since he's eating and all that he should be okay? I don't want to freak him out more by looking for him and all that.

Good news, I found him! He's in a tricky spot but tomorrow I'm gonna try to coax him out and maybe set him up in a room so he can't hide away again. Thank you!
