Saba nigiri is my favorite. Hamachi is my next favorite. I don't really care for salmon in sushi---it's always mushy, maybe because it has to be frozen? Also bland. Tuna is OK but mostly bland. I don't care for sashimi---I want rice! I also like rolls of all kinds. Well, most kinds :D. I've seen some "creative" rolls that I don't think I'd like, lol.

I love Unagi (eel)! And Ikura (salmon roe, the big ones).  Pretty much I eat it all, although I'm not crazy if there's skin left on it - which some of them have and are supposed to because of the type of fish it is.

Having said that, I dislike all the fancy rolls.  I'd prefer a simple hand roll over one of those.  If I am eating a roll, I don't do it inside out, I like having the nori on the outside for the slight snap/crunch it gives.

And yes @Willowy  most fish used in sushi/sashimi has been frozen to avoid potentially eating worms in the flesh.  Many of the larger ones such as tuna have them.  Flash freezing kills them off.

I'm pretty traditional as far as how I eat it also.  No chopsticks, dip the fish not the rice in just a small amount of soy (if you dunk rice in first, it totally destroys the way the rice is packed).  NEVER put wasabi in the soy, and use extremely little at that.  Americans have a terrible habit of hiding the flavor of the fish and overdoing all the condiments.  What's the point of eating sushi or sashimi if you're going to mask the fish???

Going for sushi is always a good pick-me-up in our house.  If we could afford to eat it daily, we would.

FYI, I just read a really great book called "The Story of Sushi" by Trevor Corson, which I got off Amazon for the Kindle for like 99 cents.  It's an easy light read, with lots of history, information mixed in with story lines of chefs, and aspiring chefs.

Oh, sure, I'm pretty sure all the fish we get here has been frozen---it's too expensive to ship fresh fish to the middle of the country! But salmon just doesn't take it well I guess :tongue2:. Or maybe salmon is naturally mushy, idk.

I like unagi too. I pretty much like anything as long as it isn't too bland or too chewy. Definitely not chewy! Ugh. Oh, and no tentacles :lol3:. I used to eat takoyaki from street vendors when I was a kid but I just can't stomach it anymore.

Sometimes I'll just make rice, put a little rice wine vinegar in it, add some canned tuna, then wrap it all up in nori. Better than nothing, lol. I also eat nori plain. I like nori :D.
