Hello. I noticed my kitties started to have her upper lips swollen. Went to vet and found out she has the EGC, rodent ulcer and other names that are being used for this condition. Doc said its a pretty classic cat condition, whatever that meant. He administered Depo-Medrol Injection and said that should help within few weeks the lacerations should disappear. But they got even worse few weeks later, more aggravated, reddish in color, bigger in size. Went to vet again, he suggested the same treatment, weeks later the lips are even worse. Anyone has experience with this condition, what can I do to help? Any other medicine that works better? Thank you!

I had a cat that had the same thing but they were able to get it under control and we had to give a weekly medication if I am not mistaken.  It was long ago and sorry I am of little help.

I wonder if your cat's ulcers are not due to a virus, rather than an immune or alkergic response? This would explain why things seemingly get better after the steroid, but then get drastically worse.

If would certainly be worth getting a second opinion and, possibly, doing a biopsy to get a definitive diagnosis.

Atopica was given to our Zuzu for this condition. (I think this is the same condition-it was called rodent something and the vet said it had to do with her having an overactive immune system.) It works but is very expensive.
