AWWW,  Mommy and baby are so darling.  That was a wonderful thing your family did David in rescuing that young cat.  She was a kitten herself at the time.  So glad mom and kitten are doing well.  Thanks so much for the complete story.  Always help to know the whole story.

That's how my cats like to sprawl out - just like your dog! He's a cutie!

The kitten has mom's coloring. Is it still nursing well?

For the first 24 hours or so we had to set with mommy and rub her belly so the kitten could nurse. Now, the mommy seems to be getting the hang of having a baby and she is nursing on her own! Yay!!!

That's wonderful! It does frequently take new moms 24-48 hours to settle in and get the hang of things. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It breaks my heart to say that my 9 day old little baby kitten, Bobbie, died a few hours ago. I went to check on her and when I picked her up I noticed that she was not breathing. She was still alive at that point. I did everything that I knew to do to try to save her. I put my hand on her chest and tried stimulating her by moving my hand rapidly back and forth. I put my mouth over her nose and mouth and gently gave her tiny breaths. I even tried tiny little chest compressions but I was unable to get her breathing again and she slowly stopped moving her legs and head and she died in my hands. I have no clue what could have caused her to stop breathing because she seemed very healthy. She was extremely active for a newborn and she was growing bigger and getting stronger by the day.

To My Sweet Little Bobbie,

Although we only had the pleasure to know you for 9 days, you were deeply loved and we will miss you more than words can express. In the short time you were with us, you brightened every second of our day. We will NEVER forget your beautiful little face and your adorable little cry when you wanted your mommy. You have only been gone a few hours and I already miss you so much. Rest In Peace Baby Girl.

I'm so sorry! It sounds like you did all you could and Bobbie was obviously very loved. [emoji]128149[/emoji]

Oh, it was shocking.  Im so sorry!   RIP little Bobbie!

And please, do consolate the poor momma as much as you can.

Let her smell off the dead baby if its not too late yet.  Let her see the baby being carried away...  So she wont need to seek after it so much.

Mom has been asleep most of the night. She woke up about 10 minutes ago and now she is in the bedroom calling for her baby. Breaks my heart!

I let mom and baby lay in their bed for about 30 minutes last night. Mom kept scooting the baby close to her stomach trying to feed the baby. I let mom watch me wrap baby up in a washcloth and put her in a metal box. While baby was in the metal box, I unwrapped her head and let mom see her before I put the lid on it. I haven't buried baby yet. Going to wait until it gets daylight.

My 15 year old daughter left yesterday going to New York City. She doesn't know that Bobbie has died. I'm going to wait until she gets back to tell her. I don't want to ruin her first trip to New York City. She absolutely loved and adored Bobbie so much. She has never lost a pet before. She is going to take this extremely hard. The last couple of years she has been dealing with severe depression because a group of guys and girls from her high school has been bullying her to the point that she attempted suicide twice. I'm not sure if any of you pray, but if you do, would you please say a prayer for my daughter Brandi? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Sorry this post is so long.

Oh, my, I am so very sorry. This would be a painful occurrence for anyone. I think it's wise to wait to tell your sweet daughter. Such a shock, and so sad.

Had everything seemed well until that point?

I do suggest that you contact area shelters to see if there are any orphans being bottle fed. If so, you may want to offer to have your cat mother them. It's good for mama kitty and good for the orphans, and heals heavy hearts.

Please let us know if this helps. It's kitten season, and there are so many helpless, homeless kittens out there.

I agree with the suggestion above.  I  too was going to suggest this, as soon as your first shock had laid down.

IF momma seems to be a good momma, a good idea is to let her be a foster momma.  This way, you can still turn the devastating defeat into a stunning victory.  And making Bobbies death wasnt in wain. As it was him and you together whom awoke the maternal instincts in Cat Momma.

Contact the vets around, and shelters around...

Just be sure the little ones didnt got orphaned because of some nasty contagion, and they are reasonably healthy.  You dont want to draw some bad disease on your cat.

Sending *vibes*  and prayers for Brandi.

@DavidOfLogan

If you hadnt buried the little one yet, a coffin of cardboard is better.  Returning to ashes quicker and easier, no?
