My cat just gave birth to one kitten. She is trying and obsessing over getting her older Almost grown kitten to join her under the buffet with her single newborn. I've attempted to remove him from the room but she sits outside the door and completely ignores her newborn. The older kitten is about 5 months old and fairly independent but she keeps going back and forth between the older cat and the newborn. Of course the older cat won't comply w her so like a mother cat often does w her babies, she grabs him by the neck trying to drag him off.
FYI:They are on a waiting list to get spayed/neutered

It's time to put mom and her newborn in a spare room together away from the older kitten for now. Put mom's food, water, and litter in with her too.

By the way, he'll be able to get his mom pregnant soon. They need to remain separated completely unless supervised until he is neutered, and mom needs to stay 100% inside.

Where do you stand on the waiting list? How does it work? Is this a low-cost clinic? Do they take appointments?

I tried that. I live in a one bedroom apartment and so they sit on either side of the door and play or meow back& forth. I may try the closet. It's roomy enough (walk in). I honestly ended up taking this cat in during the winter time when it was about 25°f outside. I live in a zipcode where the local animal shelters give free spay and neutering to those who can't afford it(which I can't). . I've been on the list for months and as embarrassing as it is, this is not her first pregnancy AND I feed another cat I can't afford either who is about to have kittens also and this is her fourth pregnancy in a year. These animals were neighborhood teen kittens that had been taken in by neighbors when they were little and cute but then turned away upon their owners moving or being evicted. I feel awful that I can't afford more. The good news is my best friend graduated from vet school two years ago and she helps when she can. She is trying to get me on an out if town list.
I didn't have any animals when I moved in three years ago but every winter (and on the coldest days) I get a cat screaming to come in. I call the city and they have helped a little but they just catch, fix, release. I buy a lot of cat food for the cats in this apartment complex but the two females that have come across my path were pregnant when I brought them in.
The boy kitten from the mom's previous litter was tiny and not eating well. He's healthy now and had a wonderful personality but I still am trying to find him a home once he is neutered. I'm definitely a little in over my head!
Just taking it one day at a time. Thank you so much for your reply.

Goodness! Bless you! Thank you for helping these cats!

Have you brought in the other female that is about to have kittens? She really needs safety and shelter now!

It's so sad to hear about all these back to back litters. I appreciate that you are trying to help resolve the situation.

Really? Are they latching?

You might want to keep the other mom inside now. She may go into labor during the night and have her kittens outside. Can you keep her in?

Everything is going well now! Her poor boy doesn't know what got into his mom. He just knows that his mom was acting really weird trying to drag him everywhere and now there's a bunch of kittens and now he doesn't exist :( lol he so badly wants to be a part of the party. Lol Whenever he is playing and let's say runs into the closet, once he's unable to see us or his mom he begins calling and calling. Poor thing always thinks he's alone when he can't see any one. Thank you for your reply. Your input has been helpful and comforting.

I have a f kitty who has had a few litters of kittens. Her six month old "kitten" nurses on his mom right next to his "brother and sister" from her most recent litter. The six month old was born in the previous litter. (I know she needs to be fixed. She is currently on a waiting list. Please understand that's not why I'm posting today).
Im not sure it's all that strange for him to continue nursing if he sees the other kittens nursing but he's too big. I worry about the mom producing enough milk to feed two baby kittens and an almost full size male kitten. I really want answers. Anyone?
Thank you!

My cat did this same thing and she had seven kittens to feed! With only two to feed it should be fine, in fact may stimulate more milk to come in. Just watch and make sure the other two are getting their time in and not getting pushed out, you may have to lock big brother up for a while, while they are nursing, if he pushes them away. I wouldn't think you have any worries, I just hope big brother doesn't carry them around too, like mine did!

Just wanted you to know that we have 5 beautiful kittens. The mom who gave birth to second liter has three. She is a great mom and often takes over for the other f who is a little younger. We joke about Sophie, the older kitty being a wonderful, responsible mother and having to help the younger mom care for her children. The younger mom has these two tiny scraggly kittens (garbage pale kittens. Hahaha). One of which is a brat and the other one wasnreally sick but is doing better and the older moma has three beautiful, well behaved kittens that belong in Hollywood on kitten food comercials.
I begin looking for homes them when they get about this age and that way I know the new owners aren't getting a new kitten on impulse. They won't get them until they are 12 weeks. We're halfway there!...thanks for the advice. Hope you enjoy the update!
