Hey all!

New kitten owner here looking for some advice: my girlfriend and I are adopting an 8 week old russian blue male (named Lincoln!). We're picking him up from our local shelter this Saturday morning (7/30) and can't WAIT to take him home!!

One issue we're struggling with is the week after: we reserved a 2 night getaway ~2  hours away from us months ago and cannot cancel our trip without substantial financial penalty. We feel awful about leaving little Lincoln without us for the 2 nights and did not anticipate his arrival so soon (the foster parent had to bring him back to the shelter a week earlier than anticipated). However, we will have family staying at our house with him for the duration of the our. They will only be leaving him alone for ~7 hours during the day time for 3 days while they are at work. They will then come home and be there with him all night for both nights. He will be in a kitten-proofed & private bedroom (door closed when home alone) with plenty of food, fresh water and a clean litter box each day. We have no other pets.

We hate the idea of leaving him so soon after bringing him home, even though someone will be with him at night. Is it possible for him to have any sort of confusion or separation anxiety when we return? He has been in foster care since he was born and has been socialized with his foster family already.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. We don't want to seem like irresponsible new parents!!

Thanks!

The fact you are posting this tells me you are not irresponsible and that the kitten has found a great home.

I am not an expert in kittens so hopefully others will weigh in. But.........................

I think the kitten will be fine. During the day they tend to sleep anyway so as long as they can't get into anything dangerous the kitten should be fine.

As long as the cat sitters can pay attention to the kitten and play and give love to it I think the kitten should do well.

That is my take, hopefully others can help as well.

And THANK YOU for saving this kittens life and giving it a wonderful home. Enjoy your getaway.
