Hi everyone! Its high time I introduced myself and my kitties Siggy and Malou.
Siggy is now thirteen weeks old and a little ball of fluff. We got her at nine weeks which is too early. We wanted to wait till she was twelve weeks old but her mother got ran over by a car when Siggy was only six weeks old so I decided to go for it. I had been having good contact with the family we got her from, exchanging mails for two weeks before picing her up. They reassured us she was eating kibble oh and that she was a he... yes we went to pick up a male kitten which I planned on naming Loki for I wanted a boy this time.
We went there and stayed for two hours talking to the people, playing with the two remaining kittens and I was so lulled into a sense of security that I completely forgot to check the sex of the kitten so when we got home and I didn't see any dangling bits I immediately knew that he was a she.
Also their promise that she was eating kibble also turned out to be wrong. They had weaned her on baby porridge and cat milk (not kitten formula) after her mother's death. I remember holding both kittens on my lap and thinking my god they don't know anything about raising kittens. Still I went through with the adoption and spent the whole evening trying to entice her to eat kitten mousse or kibble but she wouldnt. Luckily I had bought RC kitten formula and fed it to her for that was the only thing she wanted to eat.
The next day we took her to the vet who told us she was too small for her age so we had to postpone her first vaccines until she was 10 weeks. She actually had to force feed her tiny bits of high protein treats and told us to keep trying to offer her food. Eventually I found the perfect ratio of kitten formula soaked with kitten mousse and gradually managed to get her to eat only mousse by the end of the week. I'm proud to day that when we took her in at ten weeks she had finally reached the 1kg mark and was no longer on the small side [emoji]128515[/emoji]
A week ago we decided to adopt another kitten to keep Siggy company since she was starting to show the usual behavioral problems you might encounter in kittens that have been taken too young from their mother. This time we decided to do it right and got Malou a 3,5 month old rescue kitten from Greece. She had been properly socialised with her siblings and had stayed with her mother all up until the trip to the Netherlands (where I'm from).
We tried introducing them slowly but Siggy jumped the baby gate which we didn't know she could and that same evening they would only eat out of the same bowl and snuggled up together in Siggy's cat bed. The two have bonded strongly and are inseparable now.
Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading [emoji]128513[/emoji]
