I guess if he was kidnapped by his own mother, then she did not have custody of him.

Right. His father had custody of him and his mother did not return him after a court ordered visit.

I would be terribly upset if I was that boy. Why did they put him in a foster home? Why not let him meet his father and live with him? He's almost 18, I think he should be given the choice.

Unfortunately there is always more to these stories than meets the eye. We are given just the 'headlines' more or less and the rest is total speculation - still odd though!

I wonder why she was to lose custody in the first place? Did I miss that part or did they say?

Being a mother myself I would do the same if someone tried to take my kids.

First of all, this is a headline story, one to grab our attention.

Secondly is that all family court cases are emotional and all parties involved, (including legislative parties), are never satisfied with the proceedings or outcomes. This usually results in children being kidnapped by either parent or used as pawns.

It sounds like to me that this was during an ongoing custody battle as the visit which the kidnap occurred was a court-ordered one and not a custody visit.
