My baby, Astrid has scabs under her chin, a little on her neck, and one on the back of her neck. I noticed a small flare up on her chin about a few months ago and took her to the vet for it (and the constant scratching she would do on her neck area). The vet gave me some medication that would discourage her from scratching by. Because it was her wellness exam and vaccinations, Astrid was also given all the parasite guards. I hadn't noticed much of a difference in the scabs, so I decided to change her food bowl (from plastic and metal to glass), but now I've noticed a growth in the scabs (l now run down to her neck and there is one on the back of her neck). So far, there has been no change in mood or energy, she does not seem upset or stressed, she grooms herself regularly, eats just fine, no hair loss. So I'm very confused on what this could be. I'll try to upload some pictures, if it might help.

Do you treat her for fleas?  Could be flea allergy.  Could also be allergy to litter or food.  Have you changed either of those recently?

Hello,

I agree with the previous statement! Do you treat for fleas? Food/Environmental allergies? This also can be as simple as her scratching at her neck and chin and her nails causing to leave scabs. Does she wear a collar?

I have treated her for fleas when I adopted her. But there's actually no fleas in the house right now (or our dog would be itching too) and we do treat the dog (who likes to run around the woods behind our house) and we treat the carpet and furniture just to be safe. I've been using the same liter but I just recently got her some different food (purina) since taste of the wilderness was giving her loose stool. Could it be an allergy to the food?

It could be a food allergy, but you didn't mention if she is STILL itching.  You said she was, but not if that seems to be continuing.  What did the Vet give it for that, BTW?

It's possible there was something in the Taste of the Wild that she was allergic to that is NOT in the Purina (though not really likely) and it might take some time for it to work it's way out of her system...a few weeks at best.  The usual suspects are corn, wheat and soy, although some cats are even allergic to chicken and/or fish and other things as well.

She wasn't having any skin problems while on taste of the wild, just really runny stool. The problems started with purina. I was recommended to give her hill's science diet for sensitive stomach and skin, so I'm going to try to switch her to that. And she's still scratching her neck (where all the scabs are).

Any changes at all with the itching?  If not, then I would discuss with the Vet again.  That sensitive stomach may help with the stools, but if there is something in it that she's allergic too, then the itching may not stop, and that could be even worse!  Have you thought about wet food?  That's usually got much less of the things that cats are prone to have issues with, again, depending on WHICH wet food.

Did whatever the Vet gave her at one time to discourage her from scratching work at all?  Was it a steroid?  If so, that can be somewhat telling of what the problem is.  You should discuss this with your Vet for further treatment if it isn't getting any better.

My friends cat has feline acne. Exactly the same symptoms. It's very easy to treat so hopefully it'll be something like this.
