I am desperate.  My family and I adopted a kitten (my first cat ever) last May.  The kitten appeared healthy but approximately one week into having him, he showed multiple bald spots on his paw and face.  I assumed (having no experience with cats) that it was a hot spot, like my German Shepherd often had had.  However, when I took him to the vet, I was told he had ringworm (they did the test that took several weeks to give us the final answer).  Since that time, my cat has had ringworm.  He had not gone outside.  He is in one room of our home.  (Yes, it has carpet and furniture but it is the only room we have that is not inhabited by other animals or people).  I have bleached (as well as possible) the entire room over and over.  He was actually in a tent within the room for months but we finally gave that up when we became exhausted with treatment.  He was first treated with topical anti fungals and appeared to have a horrible reaction to them ( his fur began falling out and his bare skin was crusty).  Our vet prescribed Itroconozole and fluconozole.  The cat has now been on itroconozole for over one year with NO RESULTS.  He has three bald spots of ringworm as I type this.  I am absolutely desperate.  Everywhere I search, no one has had ring worm for this long.  I have cried.  I have lashed out.  I have felt horrible anxiety for my family (in particular my child, who is unable to even pet her cat).  PLEASE.  I am begging anyone who has any knowledge of what could help.  We have made an appointment with a vet who specializes in dermatology and than, if nothing changes, I will be forced to give my sweet cat away.  He is not socialized.  He is balding.  And my heart is breaking.  THANK YOU.  I appreciate any advice anyone may have.  I feel helpless and sad, but most of all frustrated.  My cat is not getting the affection he deserves and we, as a family, as suffering with how to emotionally and physically handle this craziness.

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a nightmarish time with ringworm. Have you read this thread? It has a wealth of information on treatments, cleaning, interaction, etc..

Sometimes it does seem as if you'll never get rid of ringworm - we had a very, very stubborn case in an FIV+ senior cat at the shelter that we thought would never be resolved, but it finally was after months and months of treatment. Probably the most important thing I've learned about ringworm while working there is that it's not as contagious as I'd feared. Not one of the numerous shelter workers who've had contact with. 4 seized guinea pigs, then 5 rescue cats, and right now 4 rescue kittens have gotten it. The animals were/are isolated from others , but we've petted, bathed and played with them, taking ordinary precautions like wearing disposable gloves and smocks.

Consulting a dermatologist is an excellent idea. Mega :vibes: that the specialist can get it cleared up ASAP.
