But how do I know if she really does have an infection or if I'm just worrying too much?

Your cat has white stools and bleeding. That's not normal and indicates infection or another internal issue.

Have you seen this link: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/no-money-for-vet-care-how-to-find-help-and-save-your-cats-life

Your cat may very well die if she has an untreated infection. This is especially critical if she is nursing and responsible for another life.

If you cannot get her to a vet, you might consider surrendering her to a shelter.
I agree.  Infections are bad news - especially when they're on the inside.  You should leave no stone unturned until you get her to a vet.  Maybe you could find one that will give you a payment plan.

I don't think she's sick. I think she's okay but this week I will know for sure because I will be taking her to the vet.

From my experience you should be able to hold it right now. Every cat I've had that had kittens i could hold them from the day they were born and did quite frequently. As long as the kitten isn't nursing it should be fine to hold it. If your cat would rather snuggle her baby while its sleeping you should wait till she is out and about doing her own thing or just wait until its a bit older. But I've always had cats that were super attached to me so they let me pick them up right after they were born.

Is it a good idea to start holding the kitten now or is it best to wait a little longer? She's only 5 days old.

If you're not comfortable with it or your mama cat isn't then i would hold off. I was just speaking from my own experience. I have been around hundreds of cats in the 27 years I've been alive, i grew up with cats, so i have a pretty good idea about what not to do when I'm handling them but if if you're not as confident with it then do what is most comfortable for you. If you feel better waiting until she's 2 weeks, then by all means wait :). What is right for someone else isn't always right for another. When in doubt, err on the side of safety i say.

Okay thank you! I'm just scared my cat might not let me lol. She can be aggressive sometimes. I just got her 2 months ago.

If she seems uncomfortable with it, you should probably hold off.  Like @LurkysMom  said, it mostly depends on the cat.  I also grew up with cats and we had a lot of land and my mom harbored an extreme terror of snakes and rodents so we took in all the strays and there were kittens every year.  I've always had kind of a special thing going on with cats.  I've never met a cat who didn't like me.  They say that cats can bond with more than one person but they usually develop a stronger bond with only one.  Every cat I've ever been around seemed to favor me.  We once had a half Siamese cat named Cuddles who started giving birth on my lap.  All my mama cats would let me hold their babies from birth on.  I even had one named Pocahontas who WANTED me to hold them.  She would pick them up and carry them to me to cuddle and pet.  Then, she would look at me and meow, like she was telling me play time was over and it was time for their naps.

By the way, having cats is a great way to keep snakes away.  I only saw 2 on our property as I was growing up.  One was dead near Kitty's nest (my 2 year old sister named her, lol).  I'm not sure if Kitty killed him and brought him to the babies or if he wanted a snack and Kitty wasn't having any of it.  Either way, he was dead.  The other one was in the process of being killed by Blackie.  She was fighting him in the middle of the road (don't worry, that road saw little to no traffic) and my mom was standing on the porch cheering her on.  She killed him and took him to her kittens - she was teaching them to be great hunters.  LOL

Alicia88 Alicia88 it's been the same with me. People will be like, "don't go near that cat. It hates everyone including me" and I'm always able to get said cat sitting on my lap with the hour lol. My friends called me the kitten whisperer because they had a litter of kittens that attacked everyone but me lol. They loved me. D dayana the only thing i can say if she does let you (and when you try the first time go slowly and make no sudden movements. Be sure to read her reactions cause it could stress her out if she's not comfortable with it) is to make sure you don't hold her too long (only about 10-20 minutes at a time) or it will stress mama out. It's kinda like human babies. You CAN hold them as soon as their born but when and how long is up to mama. And be very VERY careful with her if you do. They are fragile little things.

I picked the kitten up but when the mom wasn't around. The mom is with her now and she saw me touch her while she was around and it was okay. I have a question, why do kittens sometimes shake?

I've seen kittens kind of shake when they try to walk or crawl, but just because they're a little unsteady and not sure how to use their legs yet.  Is that what you mean?
