My big boy of 9 years Momo has been in the vets office for Fever of Unknown Origin. I checked on him today he has a fever of 106, having to be force fed, on a IV and it's so painful to see....

Recently since his trip to the Vet and not being home, his baby brother Smokey (not blood related) but bonded close, is acting very unusual. He stays under the bed, sometimes he comes out to eat, drink, bathroom. I can coax him out with toys or wiggling a bag of treats but it is very clear he is reacting to Momo being gone.

Any suggestions on what I can do to help Smokey through a very tough time? I am already upset and scared my big baby won't come home, it is so hard to not think negative and I am so scared. I have never had a pet react to another's absence so I am unsure how to handle this despite informing the vet and currently waiting on a call back. There must be something I can do.

The best thing you can do for Smokey is to give him extra love and attention as much as he will allow it. You can try sitting on the floor and just talking to him or reading to him. It might help just to know you are there with him while he is hiding under the bed. You could also try just laying in bed and watching tv it may encourage him to come out on his own.

It is very natural to be scared anytime one of our baby's is sick and not able to be at home for treatment vibes. I hope Momo feels better soon and Smokey realizes that you can be his source of comfort right now. Hugs to you during this stressful time.

Sorry phone sent reply of quote without my response. Thank you for the reply. Smokey is still under the bed. I lay by the bed on the floor. He won't come to me and beats his tail. Makes me think he may get sick from Momos fever. :( I'm in a panic everywhere. I can try to calm him but he refuses to stay out from under the bed for long periods of time.

I still have not figured out how to do quotes with my phone so don't worry about it. It is good that you have a call into the vet about Smokey's behavior change. You should mention your fear about him being sick to the vet.  One other thing I would suggest so that Smokey continues to eat and drink while he is hiding is to put a 2nd water and feeding area under your bed.  You want to make sure that Smokey is still eating and drinking since he is stressed out.  I am going to look for some articles on stress in cats perhaps there will be some tips that you can use to help Smokey feel more comfortable.

I can get Smokey out now even though he won't stay out. He is still loving and such but still showing depressive signs. He seems like he wants to play when I wiggle his toy but not fully into it like he usually is. My boss gave me today off so I intend to spend a lot of time with the boys at home. Thank you for offering to help find stuff. I really appreciate it.

I heard back on Momo, his pancreas (spelling) is the main culprit. I am so scared for my baby...

If you need advice about Momo's medical issues I would start a new thread about that in the health forum.  I am sorry your baby is having such a rough time. I unfortunately I have never dealt with pancreas issues.  I am sure there are other members who might be able to provide you with advice based on their personal experiences. It might at least give you some idea of what to expect.

I am glad you were able to take today off to be home with Smokey and be able to be there when you vet calls about Momo,

Your welcome,

I have dealt with other health issues in my cats and I know how scary it is when you are waiting for answers or advice.

When one of my cats had to spend time away from home at the vets I had the opposite issue his brother became extra clingy and would not let me out of his site. One of my friend's was not working at the time and I paid for her gas so someone was around for my cat. I had just started a new job when this happened. Hubby helped my friend with her resume and she had internet access to look for jobs. My cat had someone he was comfortable with visiting him and my friend got to get away from being stuck at home with no internet.

I had a 14 year old Saluki who really started to show signs of liver failure. I put him on B12 supplement and he lived another year in goof health.  I saw a product for PANCREAS for cats called Life Gold.  Ratings were very high.  I have always had dogs but now have several cats.  I know how they can get attached to us and we to them.  KEEP FAITH that all will be well.  "As a man thinks so is he"!  Smokey may in part reacting to your vibes.

Sorry Life Gold is for PANCREAS and the ratings were still high.

Smokey is out and about but I am waiting in pain on a phone call about Momo. I don't know if it is a good idea or not to bring Smokey to see Momo... I am so scared I am gonna end up saying goodbye today. Trying to decide what to do until the phone call happens. Smokey seems to know something is wrong again.

I am truly sorry Riccana.   I understand how you feel.  I have several strays that we have taken in as kittens. We also have two neutered strays that have been coming for several years. Lulu is bigger than Missy. Four or five weeks ago Missy just disappeared.  I have been sad ever since.  Lulu is still coming and I am not sure if this had something to do with territory.  Missy ran in the house one time but as I walked toward her she ran out. Surprisingly , inside cats did nothing.  Any attempts to let her in after that and she did not even look.  I even bought her and Lulu a tree to play in even tho they would come and go.
You can see her laying on the platform close to by the pots. I will say a prayer for Momo again.
