I took in a pregnant stray, she had six babies and all of them and mom seem to be doing just fine. I noticed that one of the kittens has a swollen purple-ish / red-ish leg. To my knowledge he hasn't fallen or really even moved around enough yet to sustain any injury like that. He seems to crawl around fine, just like his brothers and sisters. I don't know if maybe something could've happened at birth or what it could be. The kittens will be 2 weeks tomorrow, I haven't taken them to vet and I'm not sure how that works with him being so young. Can he really be separated from his mom long enough to go even? Has anyone seen something like this before. He doesn't seem to be in pain and he acts perfectly normal. I would appreciate any input

How long has his leg been swollen?  You probably can't ice it this young.  Can you massage it gently to get the blood moving?  First warm the leg with your fingers then massage it for a few minutes.  Try to do this a few times a day.

Yes, he can be separated long enough to be seen by a vet. Just put a hot water bottle in the carrier with him for warmth. He may need antibiotics.

It's hard to tell what is causing it from the picture, but do not put ice on a 2-week-old kitten. They cannot regulate their own body temperature yet. The leg may need an x-ray. Please see the vet, and let us know the outcome.

If you have access to a vet whom is any good, Its surely best and wise to visit this vet with the kitten yes.

Although I have seen some vets in similiar cases of swollen legs says - the kitten is too young as yet to do anything, lets wait and see... So be prepared.

Of course it may be so these vets werent very experienced with helping small kittens in surgeon wise ways.

Observe, IF the vet finds its some big fault, and you get to choose  amputate the leg or let the kitten be pts - remember, threelegged cats manage quite well, if they dont have other faults too.  some "tripods" are even excellent hunters...
