My kitty was diagnosed with FLUTD and crystals.  Vet said it's not bacterial.   Currently he is on Buprenorphine 2x a day for pain, and Prazosin to relax the urethra 2x per day.  After trying several prescription dry foods, the only one he will touch is Canin Urinary SO, but he will NOT eat any of the wet food.  We tried Hills pate, and the stew (which the vet swore he would LOVE).  He won't even touch it.  I have a water fountain out for him which he uses occasionally but I really know the importance of wet food, and I just can't get him to eat it.  He loves the Friskies pate, but he clearly needs the special urinary food.   Are there any other canned foods out there I could try with him?

I'm sorry you are dealing with crystals...I've been there and know how terrible the whole thing is. Check with your vet about this:

My girl had crystals, are RC Urinary SO and then began refusing to eat it. I now feed her the Dave's restricted diet or Nature's Variety Instinct. She is particularly fond of the Dave's. She's had a urinalysis post switch to Dave's and NVI and no crystals were found [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Be sure to keep your vet posted in any food switches as they may want a follow up urinalysis to make sure crystals are not forming due to the food.

Good luck...I hope you find something your little man will eat!!

If he would eat the food it would probably be better but if he absolutely refuses I know that crystals can be managed with medication to acidify the urine. It's a balancing act though and you have to carefully monitor the urine to make sure that it's acidic enough. It might be worth speaking to your vet about it if you can't get him to eat it.

I know :( I had a baby boy who we discovered had crystals and was peeing blood at just 14 weeks. Poor little guy used to lie down to pee! I was lucky that he was happy to eat the Hills and the Royal Canin dry foods and quite liked the stew (although in Australia they recently changed the stew and my current 2 kitties went from loving it to refusing to touch it). I hope he starts to feel better soon. Is he on painkillers? My vet used to give liquid Mobic to help with pain.
