Rick signed us up last night. We finally got one of the pizza classes! It's a 3-hour baking class on pizza. King Arthur is in Vermont, so that will be a nice little vacation for us in October. We've started to make this an annual thing and I'm really happy that we were able to get a pizza class. Last year, we took a class on making sticky buns. That was a lot of fun. I'm hoping this one will be good, too. We love going to Vermont.

He is going to Oregon in mid-September, so that will be a bit of vacation time for me, too. I'll probably use the time to do some fall house-cleaning and some shopping with girlfriends, maybe go out to dinner a couple times.

I am so excited about the trip. We decided last year that we'd try to make this an annual thing for us....the class is actually part of my Christmas present. And Rick takes the class with me, so we can work together. It's a lot of fun. And we get to eat what we create. Last year, with the sticky bun class, we had 36 sticky buns to take home (18 for Rick and 18 for me, as we each did two separate recipes). We were happily eating sticky buns until we didn't want to see another sticky bun for quite a while. It will be interesting to see what we do for the pizza class.

That sounds like a lot of fun!  Maybe one day for me too - right now so impossible to get away.

I'd love to know how to make a better pizza at home. Mine are ok, but could be better.  I always have trouble timing for good crust results.

Check out Queeche gorge near the nh/Vermont line on route 4-its about 45 min away from that big ski place Killington-my favorite ski place! I am sure that's probably too far from wherever you are staying.

Heres some google images-its HIGH up=Lovely scenery and there is a place you can park and walk along the walkway over the bridge.

Another beautiful spot is the other side of Vermont up near the Canadian border and ny boarder=Plattsburgh NY I believe-I could be wrong-on the Vermont side is the water and a long rolling road with lots of farm lane-I road the ferry across there once in the winter=was a long ride from Portsmouth but the scenery is so beautiful! You go right up 89 to get to this part of NY and you ride across a long bridge to an island then a ferry ride to NY=this was one of those strange trips I took by myself. Sometimes I miss the days where I get into my truck and point north or west and go.

We were at the Gorge last fall when we went up to Ottawa, Canada (for the ACDC concert) and then came back down through Vermont. The Gorge is beautiful; we walked it one afternoon. We usually stay at a motel around White River Junction and then cross the border into Hanover, New Hampshire to eat at Jesse's Steakhouse; Rick really likes Jesse's, so we try to eat there. Must visit Ben & Jerry's again and, of course, King Arthur. Can't forget Dakin Farms to pick up a ham and Cabot's for cheese and maple syrup. We brought a ton of cheese home last fall.

On the way home, we usually go through Mass so we can stop at Yankee Candle, then come down through Conn so we can stop at Penzey's in Hartford for my spice run.

I have not seen the Teddy Bear Store! We did hit the Vermont Country Store last year; that was interesting and I liked some of their kitchen stuff. They carry a lot of old-fashioned things that you don't see much anymore.

We went to Scotland By The Yard where I bought a beautiful scarf (it was Fraser Plaid.....Outlander). I may buy a sweater there this time around.

Vermont is just beautiful....I could live there (if it wasn't for the winter
 ).

When we were up last year, I think it was last year, but it might have been in 2014, there were scads of "pumpkin people" in yards. All these "people" with pumpkin heads: adults, kids, school students, baseball players, football players. It was kind of creepy.

Wow that's cool that you stay in white river junction. I've stayed at the Hampton inn there on my way to skiing. Them so many things to look at. What state do you live in? Or near if you don't want to say?

I love Nh and never want to leave.

If you ever want to travel to maine you should check out Acacia state park. There is lots to look at and hiking. Or walking ;) I love this area. Route 1 from kittery maine all the way to acadia is a long ride but lots of beach n water.

We're in central PA (at least until we retire). We have been to Maine a few times and would love to spend a week or so there at a B & B. I've seen pictures in Acacia and it's gorgeous.

That sounds like a great class! We are actually spending a night in the Quechee are in August before heading to Burlington for three nights. I've been thinking of checking out King Arthur along the way. :)

King Arthur has a lot of baking items and gadgets....I like looking through them. A ton of different mixes for cookies, muffins, scones, breads, donuts, etc. They sell their flours cheaper than what you can find at the grocery store, so when I go, I stock up; their five-pound bags of AP flour are 2 for $6. Down here in the grocery store, they're about 3.89 for five pounds and that's when it's on sale (not often). I also like to look through the sugars and syrups, stuff like that. Their little restaurant is nice and you can get breakfast or lunch there. The pizza is really good at the restaurant and so are their baked goods.

Last year, I bought several boxes of mixes, some dish towels and put them all together in a basket for my sister and BIL who were helping our petsitter care for the cats. We added some Cabot's cheese and a bottle of Vermont wine and gave the basket to them. They said they really enjoyed everything and my sister did use the mixes.

And then there's the school. You can stand in the hallway and watch the students in their classes and we thought it was interesting to watch them make their products. They have classes for the home baker and for professionals, too. And from time to time, they have guest instructors. Last year, Peter Reinhart (The Bread Baker's Apprentice, Whole Grain Baking, and American Pie cookbooks) there; had we known it in time, we would have scheduled a class with him instead of the sticky bun class. I really like him. They also have guest instructors from America's Test Kitchen; I would love to take a class with Julia Davidson!

I get the KA catalog and do place orders from time to time. There are usually some good recipes in the catalog, too.

I think you'd be glad you stopped by, Karen.

You inspire me. We travel to Tucson once a year for a convention. I know there are some culinary schools. Going to see if there are any short classes available .  This is of course based on if we can either find a new cat sitter or pay our old one mileage to continue to care for our cats.  I hate the idea of boarding.
