I'm participating in a de-stress / mindfulness workshop at work and one of the upcoming sessions requires a yoga mat. I don't have one and have no idea what kind of mat to buy
I was looking at Target and mats come in all different price ranges and types. Do I need a regular mat or a towel mat? The workshop session is only  half an hour long so I don't expect any serious yoga poses to be done, just some basic poses to stretch the muscles. I don't want to spend more than $20 or so.

Based on what you are describing, I would not think that you would need a towel mat as those are typically used with Bikram yoga where the room temperature is about 100 degrees. I would think a basic yoga mat like this would be sufficient:

If you enjoy the class and decide to practice yoga more regularly, you may decide to invest in a sturdier mat or you may find you prefer one style over another. For example, I like a mat with a little more thickness and texture.

Enjoy!

I agree - just get a regular cheapie yoga mat. Mine's lasted me for years, and is just a very basic 4mm mat. I will just point out that the link hellomisskitty hellomisskitty posted is for a mat SLING not the mat itself ;)

Having said all that, I'm currently lusting after one of these ones from Amazon (uk) :-
I live that mat Columbine Columbine !! Could you tell me the name of the manufacturer? I'd like to see if I can find it here in the US [emoji]128522[/emoji]

It's made and distributed by Yoga Studio. As it's their own design, you may not find it elsewhere. They do offer international shipping though :D I should probably warn you that they're not cheap though (hence my lusting after it rather than buying it straight away :lol3: )

Thanks so much [emoji]128522[/emoji] I'm going to save this site for when I need to replace my current mat. I recently invested in a Jade yoga mat (which won't wear out for a long while) so I can't justify buying another may but this is going to be my next one!!

Just a regular mat is fine. I get the cheapest ones I can find. I do a lot of yoga and the cats have a habit of clawing up the mats whenever they can, but the cheap ones still last a couple of years.
