Hi guys,

I have a 13 week old kitteñ and I'm concerned about a lump I found on her yesterday. It feels like something we would get if we got hit on the head(like a goose egg). It's about the size of plum cut in half. It feels like fluid and when it's touched she cries and jump. If it's lightly touched she's fine but if you ass steady pressure it hurts her. She was playing with a partially opened cupboard and it slammed on her so I'm wondering if that may be it??. Does anyone know what it could be? I was thinking of waiting a few days. It wasn't there the day before, even that morning. I know this 100% because I just groomed her myself. Plus I'm always holding and petting her. I was petting her that morning and nothing was there and when I petted her again later that day it was there. She climbs in holes and get stuck however I've blocked all the ones I found her around. So I'm thinking it was the cupboard and if so what should I do. Will it go away on its own or does it need to be treated. I only have one vet to go to and they literally charge me an arm and a leg just to bring my animals in for check ups and they won't tell me anything over the phone. Please help

I don't know if anyone else has experiece of things like this but a lump that size on a little kitten is really big and it sounds from your description as if it is causing your kitten a lot of pain.   I think you do need to take your little one to see the vet:  maybe they have some kind of payment plan or something to help with costs?

If you are able to take photographs at all that might help people think what it might be.  Kittens can get in to all sorts of trouble and hurt them self unfortunately.

I hope you are able to get your kitten well soon.

The lump sounds like it is either a bruise, although they are not usually too big/squishy and tend to get smaller fairly quickly. I'm wondering if it could be an abscess...maybe a splinter or something caused an infection? I know how expensive vets can be...especially the big box vet clinics that are the rage. Sometimes a more rural vet will be less than half price or more of the new clinics. If the lump persists, as much as I hate to say it, but you should have her seen by a vet. If it is that painful that she won't tolerate touching it, then it could turn into something serious.
