I have three new kittens- found them at about 8-9 weeks. Failed foster- I'm keeping them all! All three were spayed/neutered around 10-11 weeks. When the little boy came home, he had a rough time with swelling and with the after effects of anethesia and was so afraid of us. That was two weeks ago. We have made improvements, but he's stll timid- and he was so outgoing before surgery. Anyway, he also started sneezing once home. No eye discharge, no nasal discharge. Eats and uses the litter box fine. Plays with his sisters. Seems ok other than he's still timid and sneezes often and his two littermates have never sneezed and my two older cats have not either. I need to take them in to the discount clinic (no well check, just does spay/neuter and vaccines) for distemper and rabies this week (they were too young at time of spay/neutering). Should I take him to my regular vet first? Can he get the vaccines if he's sneezing? Everything I've looked up says watch the eye and nasal discharge, but there is none? Any advise? Of course I'll tke him to the vet if necessary, but the $$$ with three unexpected kittens for all they have needed so far has added up and funds are tight.

I would take him along with his sisters just so he's not separated from them, and then ask them at the clinic if it's ok and let them make the decision.  I think it's kind of a fine line with this, so I'd let the professional's decide if it were me.

If she's already not 100%, I would recommend not getting the shots.  She can always get them later when she's 100%.

I went ahead and took him in to my vet this afternoon ($85 later...). Temp normal, chest sounded slightly congested. Said his being so stressed probably lowered his immune system and he picked up a URI when being neutered at the low cost clinic. Put him on L-lysine and said I could pay for antibiotics now, or since it's just sneezing and minor, see if the L-lysine improves him enough and call back for the meds next week if not. Said to wait a few days to get the vaccinations.

Good news is he takes the L-lysine gel no problem. I also picked up some Rescue Remedy drops at GNC to help him with being stressed.

Glad he's eating the L-Lysine with no issues.  Just as an aside, did you get Rescue Remedy for PETS?  They make one specifically for animals that doesn't contain alcohol.  I use that, in conjunction with Pet Calm, when things are happening around the house to upset the furkids, like right now when construction is going on
.  That Pet Calm spray seems to work even better than the Rescue Remedy I think. I didn't use it yesterday and one of my guys was kind of a basket case.  Today he's just laying here like nothing is going on.
