Good Morning.

So im Sammiie & my 17 month old Midnight is currently pregnant.
We took her to be spayed but she couldn't get booked in til the week later. My sister had her whilst we went away for a family emergency, and upon returning she had bought a male cat. As you can imagine, the inevitable happened and she ended up pregnant but to us it was unknown. We took her to be spayed and the nurse said she couldn't take her in because she was too far pregnant. They never indicated how far, nor did they check over Mum to be.
So upon returning home two weeks ago we worked out the dates and roughly she should be due in the next two days. Obviously we don't know how many kitties are in there as we can't tell and I don't want to prod around too much but they are wriggling around and kicking and playing games. She hasn't nested as I'm a little worried she's finding my sofa footstool rather comfy. I have managed to entice her into the hallway to a box where she used to lay on the floor by the front door. She seems to be using it and today she's been in there a lot.
I wanted to introduce me and Midnight and say hey! I do also have the following questions being my first time with a pregnancy in an animal.
• when will she start to milk? She has tiny white dots at the moment not sure if it's milk.
• how long after kittens are born can we touch them?
• if in a property with no garden or green area and a kitten is stillborn what should I do?
• if a kitten isn't lactating or is rejected but still alive how do we hand rear?
These are just some of the questions I have as no vet will help they said only time they get involved is if mum is in distress after struggling to push. As kittens are not priority only Mum is. Also her temperature has been at 37.3 the past three days. When would we be expecting labour?

Lovely to meet you all! Hope to hear from you all soon xx

Since mom is already beginning to lactate, you have a week (possibly a little longer) to get things ready.   She should be eating kitten food, wet and dry.  The extra nutrients and fat will be passed to her fetuses and also through her milk once they are born.  Pregnant and nursing moms eat a lot.  have dry down all the time and try to feed wet 3 -5 times a day.

Please stop taking her temperature.  If you must take it under her front leg (think underarm) and add  - I know it's 3 degrees for F, not sure if it is still 3 degrees for C.  There are other clues to impending birth.  Being extra affectionate, wanting non-stop belly rubs, lose of appetite, voiding of bowels, water breaking, nesting, panting and ripples along belly and sides.  Not all cats have the same symptoms but all have a couple of these.

Her nest should be in a closet in a bedroom or an unused bathroom  She will want a low traffic area with low light.  Bright light is not good for the kittens eyes.  Put her litter box, water and food nearby so she doesn't have to go too far from her kittens to take care of her needs.  Some cats want attention the first couple of days and take a day or two to settle into motherhood.

If a kitten is stillborn - its sometimes possible to revive them. Warm them up, rub them vigorously, perhaps with a towel, try to get water from mouth and lungs...   If it is still totally dead and you dont have anywhere to bury it - you wrap it in something suitable, say a little prayer if you wish, and let it be cremated.  Easiest with the other things which are burn, ie the household wastes.

So at 12pm today my baby Midnight, went into labour however I was poorly she wouldn't carry on without me!
She waited for five hours til 5pm I woke up out of bed after being asleep due to me being sick, and she messed for ages! Took her to the nest and she wouldn't settle so we laid on the hallway floor together.. We had lots of snuggles and I rubbed her tummy anyway.. Almost five hours later and we have a beautiful first little of 5 healthy babies.. One is on the small side but doing amazing!! Il post some pics xx
